This Thunderbolt 3 Device is Absolutely Amazing, but with some Reservations about many Thunderbolt 3 Devices and their Ability to Work with Windows vs Apple. The NVMe slot is a dream for all Tech savvy users. The Glow Lighting is much more delicate than MOST of the RGB Lighting that has insulted our eyes for years.I have purchased a few TB3 Devices now and have experienced results that are both compelling and appalling with Windows Based PC'S. Finding Software/Firmware that makes these High End Devices work is at Best Obtuse. I Sent my Amazon purchased FireCuda Dock back to the Manufacturer after they could not troubleshoot it over the phone nor even remotely. They said they would replace it but suggested that MSI (my new notebook- Prestige 15 )had updated firmware for TB3.
I had already spent innumerable Hours with MSI, Seagate and Intel.I had earlier sent my Notebook back to MSI together with a smaller TB3 External NVMe SSD and they said it worked fine after resetting Windows (which I had done 3 times myself - with no positive result)
My Daughters Macbook Pro 2020 recognised this device. The New Firmware does not work. I need help right now , like the Luke's Graham Song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little drive for XBox-though 8TB drive not compatible with PS4
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 October 2018
Capacity: 8 TBStyle Name: Xbox One HubVerified Purchase
I know it says XBox but wanted it for my PS4 as space was running low as presumed it would work anyway as I’ve mixed before. I bought the 8TB model and tried to set it up but even after formatting it, my PS4 refused to recognise it as extended storage. Then when I checked in the storage details, the storage capacity was listed as 8.01 TB, and the PS4 won’t recognise more than 8TB. I have since found out it is not being recognised because the PS4 does not recognise external Hubs, which this is. I’m now using it on an XBox and it works perfectly, if a little noisy at times. For the size of the games being made now, it’s an excellent buy for the XBox but not for the PS4 unfortunately. Hopefully an update might sort this but I’m not holding my breath.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gute weiße Version der 8TB-Seagate
Reviewed in Germany on 8 May 2018
Capacity: 8 TBStyle Name: Xbox One HubVerified Purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars A great product, but extremely slow delivery time for the item from this seller.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2017

I do like this hard drive. It does exactly what you'd want, which is to add storage space for your games, or media if you assign it for that for your Xbox One, and it looks nice and the USB ports are a useful addition. Shame about the delivery though was was approaching a month and taking too long, so felt i had to switch to express delivery, at which point it was immediately dispatched and arrived in two days, so my point is, if you want a reasonable delivery time, either get from another seller or go express delivery, from my personal experience.

Additional: If your thinking of buying this as an external drive for your PS4, don't, it won't work on it, i know, i tried it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works on PC, 184 MB/s Write, 7.27TB
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 July 2021

Can Recommend!! This is my 8th Seagate Drive, one lasted 4.5 years after heavy use on XBOX ONE S (the 4TB green portable game drive) and the rest are still in use.

Bought this (8TB game drive) as a backup for media and general files for long-term storage.

Contrary to Q&A's, it works fine on PC, works out at £15 per TB (purchased at £120), so worked out great value, even compared to internal 3.5 drives. Usually for a HDD in mid-2021 it's around £20-25+ per TB. Western Digital has also been reputable to be fair but their similar external drive was around £40-50 more.

Overall, I've just installed it and am starting backups, I will update later if needed but can recommend.
Also, it's industry standard to get less capacity than stated in marketing i.e. real life 1 TB = 1,024 GB, and manufactures assume 1TB = 1000 GB, they use standard base-10 numbers that people are more familiar with. I'm used to this so discount any low review with this as a reason. Also actual capacity is effected by how the drive is formatted. Also, SMR is fine for me (the way it writes data, once the drive is full, it slows down somewhat when replacing data), if you need faster then get a NAS Drive like the IronWolf for high Capacity but be warned they are designed to always be on, and are much more expensive.

And just a last note, I assumed my fastest USB ports would be the front panel of my PC but nope, so make sure you are using on the fastest port available, tested on a USB.3.2 port.

Gave Portability 5 Stars as it is designed for desktop use, also it's fine to move, just remember it needs external power.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shingled Drives can cause problems.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 January 2022
Capacity: 8 TBStyle Name: Xbox One HubVerified Purchase
I've owned a few of these drives for a while now (One of these and two black ones). I was close to sending this one back recently as I started to get timeouts and USB disconnects. However, I did a bit of testing and found that:

- It was easy to reproduce - random read (or write) I/Os towards the end of the disk did the trick.
- It happened in Windows and Linux.
- It also happened when I tried the same tests on the other drives, which had so far caused no issues.

What I think is happening is the operations, which are longer because of the shingling process, were simply taking too long and the drive was becoming saturated. Once a timeout threshold is reached, the I/O will be retried - you will see this in the System log in Windows, or dmesg in Linux (not sure how logging is done on Macs as I don't use them, but it will be similar). Too many retries and the OS will reset the USB port and it's downhill from there.

The simple rule here is you cannot use these drives for anything remotely day-to-day. Use them to store and retrieve data long term and try not to do much more with it. In my case all I was doing was some downloads directly onto the drive (multiple parallel downloads hence random I/O). Instead do your work on better disks - either internal HDDs/SSDs or non-shingled USB drives, and then copy the data across.

Still, the price per capacity is good on these. As long as you know their limitations.

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow as sh!t

Can see why they are sold as "game drives" to console players. They are the binned HDDs that don't make it into normal portable drives or internal 3.5" as the write speed is total carp.

Unless if you get over 250mbps internet, you won't notice on console the game taking longer to download than on a higher-performing drive. So they get away with dumping these slow drives on gamers who probably won't know any better due to their use.

I got 2 of these drives and the first one maxes out at 26MB/s while the second max out at 38MB/s.
For comparison, my WD My Book drives do around 135MB/s write and that is 50% full.

Every Xbox One X owner should have one, easy to install.
1Tb is not enough these days as games/digital games get more bulky with DLC or updates and with 4k content. You also have the ability to plug other devices into the 3.0 USB ports, these are on the front of the hub for easy access. this a 8tb and after moving all of the Fallout 4/76, Division, Destiny2 includes all DLC's, For Honour, Red Redemption, Mass effect 4 and a few other games PUBG and Fortnight War frame…. I have only used 10% of the drive! this has left my Xbox One X with just the apps that came with it with about 95% space free.
Fantastic buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent External HDD, the Ultimate solution for Xbox One users !

I was tired about managing games on my internal HDD and my two external HDD (respectly 1To and 2TO 2"5 HDD in USB3.0 and the 1To of the internal HDD) because I'm a huge gamer on Xbox One, I have ton of games from Xbox Originals, Xbox 360 and now Xbox One with all the low prices of games in promotion or free with games with gold (for Xbox Live Gold Members, 4 games free every month !) and now with Gamepass it's a lot of game to play ... And I don't want to made choice, I want to play my game now and not waiting it is downloading because I was obligate to delete it to have more space ... so with 8To, you will be quiet untill the next generation ! I allready put all my HDD content on it and I have 4,2 To ! It is more speed than a 2"5 HDD, it is well design, just it made a little bit of noise but it's not to high ! For me it's definitively the best solution to storage game on console ! I recommand it ! And I have it for a great price ! 150 euro ! The price of 4To with the double of capacity ! Great !

5.0 out of 5 stars Can be used for PC's too! A really nice unit
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 January 2020

I paid the extra money for this drive simply because the other drives I looked at are typically half the speed and generally for backup only. This drive works perfectly on my Alienware system for the 'every day' stuff and the fast drives I have are used for everything else, but don't assume from what I said that this drive is horribly slow, it is not!

While others here seem to generally comment about the XBOX use for this drive I have successfully used it none stop on my PC for transferring stuff that I don't use all the time (pictures, archive video for editing and compiling etc.) and it has not failed in any way.

Singular thing I don't like is the wall wart of a power supply that they have. But when you turn off the PC this drive turns off automatically too so it's not really a pain. This drive is USB 2 & 3 compatible and I use mine with USB 3 which as most will know adds a far greater transfer rate. Typically I get about 200Mb speeds or thereabouts (it varies on what the drive is loaded with) and the 'free space in Windows 10 is in reality about 7.2 Terabytes of real storage.

Highly recommended compared to other similarly priced stuff and some of the WD drives I looked at cost 1/3 more for USB2... this was by far the best choice for me and I don't care whether it says Xbox on the cover or whether it says peanuts :). Nice in white too, and I also like the USB connectors on the front of the unit for connecting other devices as I seem fit. It's certainly useful for a PC user and it works fine on my XBOX (latest version too, which I tried before using the drive on my PC which was its real purpose of use.
