Ich benötigte einen 16 Port Switch, um wieder ein paar Reserven zu haben. Warum also nicht gleich einen modernen mit "IGMP-Snooping", damit man für die Zukunft gerüstet ist. Einen Switch kauft man ja nur alle x Jahre und er hält normalerweise auch ewig.

Der TP-Link TL-SG116E ist optisch und haptisch sehr ansprechend, das Metallgehäuse macht einen guten Eindruck. Von den Anschlüssen her, Netzteil etc sind keine Probleme zu erwarten, alles wunderbar. Die Firmware lässt sich updaten, was bei mir auch reibungslos klappte. Das Web-Interface rief ich mehr der Neugier halber gelegentlich auf, da "managed" an sich nicht gebraucht und es deshalb mehr als zukünftige Möglichkeit gesehen wurde.

Das große Problem dieses Switch ist die Instabilität:
Obwohl ich ihn überwiegend mit Standardeinstellungen betrieben hatte und er auch nur sehr wenig ausgelastet wurde, machte er alle 8-10 Wochen Probleme. Angeschlossene Geräte können nicht mehr auf das Netzwerk zugreifen, die LEDs am Switch leuchten und blinken jedoch weiterhin.
Das Perfide an der Sache: es betrifft nicht immer alle Ports, vereinzelt bleiben manche Ports "hängen" und es sind auch nicht immer dieselben. Geäußert hat sich das bei meinem IP Telefon mit Meldungen wie "Telefonie ausgefallen" und mein LAN-Drucker konnte nicht mehr auf den USB-Stick der Fritzbox scannen. Wenn dann immer nur ein Gerät plötzlich ausfällt, braucht es lange bis man auf den Switch als Ursache kommt. Vorher geht man zeitaufwendig alle Einstellungen des IP-Telefons oder des LAN-Multifunktionsgerätes durch und checkt noch aufwendiger die Verkabelungen der Netzwerkdosen, wenn die eine geht und die andere nicht.

Um es kurz zu machen:
Circa alle 2 Monate hat das Ding gesponnen und ich musste es (auf dem Dachboden) kurz aus- und wieder einstecken. Da mittlerweile mehrere Rezensionen von diesem Problem berichten, scheint generell dieses Modell betroffen zu sein und nicht nur mein Switch. Ich kaufte den Switch Ende 2019 und retournierte ihn gegen Erstattung dank Amazon problemlos im Sommer 2021. Im Jahr 2020 renovierten wir viel, sodass die Instabilitäten nicht auftraten, da sowieso häufig der Strom abgestellt werden musste. Erst ab Winter 2020 kristallisierte sich der Switch als Fehlerursache heraus, woraufhin ich mit Firmware-Updates, anderen Konfigurationen und Workarounds in meinem Netzwerk versuchte abzuhelfen. Nichts hat geholfen.

Lösung:
Erst wieder ein "dummer" (nicht-managed) Switch brachte die erhoffte Besserung. Ich entschied mich wieder für TP-Link, aber diesmal für das Modell 116 ohne "E" ....
