Great Collection of Early Ernest Tubb
Reviewed in the United States on 8 February 2014Verified Purchase
The answer is no, there are no drums in traditional country music which includes this set. In older country music, the rhythm was carried by the stringed instruments, guitar, violin or banjo. In the late forties or early fifties, Hank Williams developed heavy guitar chords as a method of delivering rythm. Later on, Johnny Cash used a bass in his music. The Country Music Association (CMA) which attempted to force country music into a straitjacket declared there shall be no drums if you want to call it country music. Luckily, the "Outlaw Movement" led by such notables as Johnny Paycheck, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard forced a change to what was acceptable.
As for the sound quality, it is generally extremely good, even if you don't allow for the age of this music. The only problem I noted was that a very few tracks sounded slightly muffled, possibly a result of agressive noise reduction.
I also have " 8 Classic Albums - Ernest Tubb ". I prefer the sound of these CDS over the sound of that album collection. The album collection sounds like the highs were pushed to the extent of distorting Tubb's voice. The result is a piercing voice rather than the more mellow tones of this set.
Highly recommended for fans of Ernest Tubb or of older country music in general.

"Country Gold" fits this collection

Seems I' re-discovering the good ol' Country Music fro the 40's and 50's. Some of this music I remember from when I was "knee high to a grasshopper" (as my granddad used to say). What can you say about "Walking the Floor Over You"? That's the real deal. All the tracks I listened to sound pretty darn good - considering when the recording were made. If you like good ol' Country music - the way it's supposed to be - you will find this collection a worthwhile addition to your CD library.

Unbelieveable

Here is a 4-CD Set that costs less than most 2-CD Sets; and this one has 100 songs; all original. You cannot go wrong with this one. A fine booklet is also included which provides info regarding discography. All of ET's big hits are here, as well as some lesser known numbers. There's duets with the legendary Red Foley, and you can hear the incredible lead guitar which made his music so recognizable, despite the ever-changing lineup of guitarists on display here. Proper Records released this set, and they deserve a big thumbs-up on this one.

I found plenty to enjoy.

This collection introduced me to ET. I started wondering about his music after hearing Junior Brown's "My Baby Don't Dance to Nothing but Ernest Tubb". I knew the name and a little about him but that's all. I find the songs to be clever and his phrasing unique. The collection sounds good to me since I figure that as a big name he had the best recording available at the time. About half of the entries from the collection are in rotation on my MP3 player.
