But for me Queen, Ultravox, the extended version of Yello's The Race and the epic version of the Sun Always Shine on TV are all wonderful. Anything with a touch of Trevor Horn epitomise the 80s for me and sounds marvellous - so Two Tribes, Dollar, Propaganda all score for me. The Mike Oldfield makes a pleasant surprise. The 12" version of You Spin Me Round might just make this collection worth the price alone, and I wouldn't say it was normally my kind of music.
All in all it's a nice selection. And for less than £10 a bargain.
A. Urgent Memo To The Marketing Dept at Sony Music HQ W.London - Far Too Many Usual Normal and Completely Boring Dull Choice of 12' versions by Premiership Division OR major groups/artists like: [Queen; Duran (Squared); FGTH; Bananarama; A-ha; Spandau Ballet; ... other 80s superstars] which are already out on CD on other packages on recent CD albums usually as bonus tracks on top selling album reissues.
B. Urgent Memo To The Marketing Dept at Sony Music HQ W.London - there is NOT NEARLY ENOUGH: 1.Impossible-to-find OR 2.rare OR 3.hard-to-source OR 4.obscure OR 5.one-hit-wonder OR 6.etc :-
12" mixes; 12" remixes; 12" dubs; 12" dance mixes; 12" extended mixes; 12" alt mixes; 12" foreign language vers; Long versions; LP versions; Club mixes.... by (for example):-
eg Will Powers "Kissing with confidence" (English language extd mix; AND GERMAN LANGUAGE extd mix);
eg Laurie Anderson "Oh, Superman";
eg H2O "Dream to sleep"; => plus 4 other 7" singles as well on 12" vinyls.
eg Alexei Sayle "Ullo John gotta a new motor" (part 3) 9m Extended mix;
eg Alexei Sayle "Ullo John gotta a new motor" (part 4) 5m Profanity Ridden Ultra remix;
eg The Shadows "Dancing in the dark";
eg Propaganda "Duel" 2nd version;
eg Olivia Newton John - ANY 12" mixes from 80s;
eg John Forde "Stardance";
eg John Forde "Woman";
eg The Smiths "This charming man" extd mix AND the very rare "NY mix"
eg ZZtop "Stages"
eg Ryan Paris "Dolce vita".
Final thought: what is actually needed is a very large book of all UK released 12" singles from 70s/80s/90s decades (including Madonna Cicone & Cliff Richard) with all useful info for record collectors eg final chart position; number of weeks; labels; catalogue numbers (etc) since The Virgin Book of UK Hit Singles (volume 2) is only fit for 7" 45rpm singles OR CD singles with no distinction between 7" or 12" singles info.
