Unfortunately, that potential is not well executed. I'll lead with the flaws:
This title suffers from an unfortunate result of being relatively unpopular. Often when titles aren't very popular and the writing lackluster, a rehashing of the characters will occur every other issue. In this Thunderbolts Omnibus, expect to have them express to you the very basics of the group ad nauseum. This is unfortunately what many unpopular comics do when they are struggling and hoping to get new readership. Additionally, they'll bring in other important characters to try and "beef up" the team. Avengers, Ironman, Captain America, Hawkeye, several attempts to re-up this team in the 30ish issues.
Writing overall is bland as well. There is often rather boring situations or random successes which occur and ultimately, makes it feel like a fan fiction story.
I did state that there was a great premise here. That does go into some of the stories. Characters like Mach-1 are very interesting in concept and are among the better aspects of the story but still don't punch as hard as they should.
The first issues of the comic are indeed the best and even characters such as Techno are quite intriguing until the plot goes quickly C grade.
At the end of it all, little happens in this Omnibus outside of the initial premise. It's a shame too because I really did want this to pan out to be most excellent. I can only assume those who enjoy this story do so with a full dose of nostalgia but frankly I recognize why I didn't jump in when it first came out... it simply isn't worth the time.

That said I cannot wait for volume 2 for come out and love some of the moves the omnibus collections have and they can keep on coming!!!
