5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with Google Fi
Reviewed in the United States on 1 February 2019
I bought this to add LTE connectivity to my Surface Book 2 when traveling. I ordered a Data-only SIM from Google Fi to stick in there (NOTE: you will need a nano-SIM to standard-SIM adapter! In a pinch, I ordered the "T-mobile SIM starter kit" (B00LPPHHFK) via PrimeNow, since it includes the necessary SIM adapter). I can typically get between 20 and 80Mbps down over LTE, and around 10 to 20Mbps up (see attached screenshot). When using the Data-only SIM with Google Fi, you'll be connecting to T-Mobile's network. The modem should report the network operator as "TMO".

To setup the modem on Windows 10, you'll need to install the Huawei MobilePartner software for the E397u chipset, which installs the driver that exposes 3 serial port interfaces ("PC UI Interface" is the one for entering AT commands manually to control and monitor the modem. It runs at 115200 baud) + the network interface. I'm pretty sure the APN is not required (I seem to be able to connect with and without it defined). But to set it with the Huawei/Cricket software, you'll want to create a new "profile" and set the APN (Options > Profile Management >Dial-Up) to "h2g2". Once this is set, you don't need to use this software any longer (but the driver still needs to remain installed). You can also set the APN with the AT+CGDCONT command over the serial interface (search "connecting apn using at commands" for more info).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good ASUS router backup WAN solution
Reviewed in the United States on 30 October 2016
So far, one day of testing, this device works perfectly for what I needed it for.

1. Works perfectly on TMOBILE LTE. I only get 5MB with it, but the connection to my location isn't great.
2. Works mostly perfectly in my ASUS router (RT-AC3200-Merlin FW) for backup WAN. This is what I really wanted this device for. The ASUS picks it up and requires basically no configuration to work out of the box. Fails over pretty successfully, I've had at least one glitch where I had to reset the router, but it's worked every other time.

As an added bonus it has an external antenna port if you're looking to use it somewhere that an external antenna might be necessary. The manual claims this is used for "out RF testing", so YMMV on using it successfully as an external antenna, but it's worth mentioning.
