Unlike traditional optical media, which utilize dyes that can break down over time, data stored on an M DISC is engraved on a patented inorganic write layer – it will not fade or deteriorate. What makes M DISC an ideal long-term archival solution?


Longevity With Verbatim M DISC, information is engraved into a patented, inorganic recording layer resistant to light, temperature and humidity. Based on ISO/IEC 16963 testing, M DISC media has a projected lifetime of several hundred years –up to 8X that of most LTO media and up to 60X that of hard disc drives.	Compatibility Verbatim prides itself on producing optical media compatible with more drive manufacturers than any other brand in the world. To ensure writer and autoloader compatibility, Verbatim works closely with hardware manufacturers on all phases of product development. M DISC BD-R media requires no special drives for recording or playback. Additionally, unlike other archival solutions (e.g. LTO) BD-R drives are required to be backward compatible with older forms of optical media such as CDs and DVDs.	Random Access Unlike offline storage options, such as LTO, Verbatim BD-R media provides random access, allowing you to navigate directly to the data you need without the need to fast forward or rewind.	High Definition Blu-ray discs are designed specifically to store high-definition files. When formatting disc for 1st time , total GB is 93.2 which then reduces to 90 once formatted. I wish these Total GB's were accurate on every formatable device.
Still able to fit a lot of HD and 4K video files per disc and you have to be happy with the lifespan which these discs offer. One star deducted for not being 100GB.

An den Scheiben gab's nichts zu meckern, ließen sich einwandfrei beschreiben, aber ein Fragezeichen bleibt natürlich schon, wenn 4 von den 5 Jewel Cases einen Sprung haben. Könnte ja sein, dass die Scheiben auch was abbekommen haben von der anscheinend etwas rabiaten Behandlung. Vermutlich hätte ich's reklamieren können, aber ich habe es mehr als ein kosmetisches Problem betrachtet.

Planned Obsolescence

The only true NON VOLATILE Storage

Some of you may already have experienced data corruption and disintegration with fast performing storage medias, like NVMe SSDs. I for one surely have had that experience, and I was looking for a robust and reliable means of storage, and stumbled upon M-Disc by Millenniata. Unfortunately, disc media is on the obsolescence, and the companies making disc media technology also went down to the abyss, including Millenniata.

Fortunately, Verbatim is still standing strong with disc media storage technology, and the M-Disc Blu-Ray writable disc is the pinnacle of archive storage. I have made copies of my most cherished memories without a hitch, and reading them back was smooth and easy. They are not the fastest storage media, but they to seem to be permanent and intact.

I also tried the ink-jet disc label on one of my software backup disc. The label printed out just the way I wanted, and dried onto the disc fairly quickly.

This review is just to bring up to seller's attention that it's absolutely inappropriate to ship this, rather expensive, product, to which people planning to entrust their most valuable data and digital memories, packaged in a thin and loose bubble-wrap envelope. Promising a 1000 years of data lifespan yet leaving the media integrity at the mercy of the delivery folks brings a strong sense of cognitive dissonance to my mind. Customers are buying Pelican and Turtle storage cases to protect their media archives at home, yet the media itself is being shipped packaged worse than some protein bars (which surprisingly enjoy their own cooler bag for shipping).

Out of a spindle of 25, so far I burned 20, and got 5 failures and 15 good burns. That is a horrible failure rate for such expensive discs. There seemed to be no reason why they failed; I tried burning the same data onto a different second m-disc from the spindle and it worked. Maybe I just got a spindle of duds. But I will not be buying any more of these.
