Product description
Verbatim M DISC optical media is the new standard for digital archival storage. Unlike traditional optical media, which utilize dyes that can break down over time, data stored on an M DISC is engraved on a patented inorganic write layer – it will not fade or deteriorate. This unique engraving process renders these archival grade discs practically impervious to environmental exposure, including light, temperature and humidity. Designed for widely distributed large data such as scientific images, video, and other commercial application object data, Verbatim M DISC BD-R DL media have a storage capacity of 50GB – allowing you to use fewer discs while archiving your files.

Still able to fit a lot of HD and 4K video files per disc and you have to be happy with the lifespan which these discs offer. One star deducted for not being 100GB.

*** Mac computers natively record BDXL with no issues ***
You don't need any other special software.
I use MDISC to archive files from an external hard drive connected via a USB 3.0 dock. It takes about 3 hours for 100GB to record and 2 more hours to verify the disc. I only ruined one, and that was negligence on my part, literally the cable was loose and disc was ejected mid-process.
This is the writer I use:
LG WH16NS40 Super Multi Blue Internal SATA 16x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter
With this adapter cable:
UGREEN SATA to USB 3.0 Adapter Cable for 3.5/2.5 Inch SSD HDD SATA III Hard Drive Disk Converter Support UASP Compatible with Samsung Seagate WD SanDisk Hitachi Toshiba, with 12V Power Adapter
You can find a slightly cheaper cable, but it won't have the necessary power requirements.
The cost of the writer with the cable is about the same as those slim portable ones, but from what I've read, this big ugly setup performs much more reliably. So far so good.
I got a pack of 25x 100GB and also 25x 4.7GB for testing and smaller files. I recommend testing your setup on smaller MDISCS first so it doesn't cost so much if you mess up.

Fortunately, Verbatim is still standing strong with disc media storage technology, and the M-Disc Blu-Ray writable disc is the pinnacle of archive storage. I have made copies of my most cherished memories without a hitch, and reading them back was smooth and easy. They are not the fastest storage media, but they to seem to be permanent and intact.
I also tried the ink-jet disc label on one of my software backup disc. The label printed out just the way I wanted, and dried onto the disc fairly quickly.
