Adjust Eyecups & IPD

Enjoy comfortable viewing even if you wear eyeglasses. Simply twist the eyecups up or down to see the full field of view. Keep the eyecups fully extended if you aren’t wearing eyeglasses or sunglasses.

The IPD (interpupillary distance) is the distance between the centers of the left and right pupil. Your binocular also has an IPD. To see a single image free of shading, rotate your binocular until its IPD aligns with your eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars i read several very good independent reviews before buying .. very impressed !
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 October 2019
Following a fair amount of online research including some independent product assessments done by well respected birding organisations I decided the vortex 8x42 were coming in ahead of the field in their price range in nearly every test out there, even comparing well to binoculars at 4 times the price. My prime interest is wildlife photography so I’m more interested in ‘spotting’ than pure viewing of birds etc but I have to say I’m extremely impressed with these and they’re making my trips out a lot more enjoyable.
They’re light weight with a bright light gathering image, wide field of view, feel well protected by the rubber coating, comfortable to use and a nice subdued green.

I occasionally spend a fair bit on high end camera lenses, so I’m familiar with the marginal but sometimes noticeable ‘gains’ you get through buying the very top of the range brands .. the Vortex, while not at that top end on paper are more than fit for my requirements.. I’m fairly discerning and would struggle to keep something that I felt was sub standard.. but I’ll be keeping these!

(I was at RSPB Otmoor this October, chatting to a guy who had a pair of Swarovski.. he let me have a look through them..of course I said ‘oh wow’ etc because he was clearly very proud of them but to be honest I wasn’t that aware of a huge difference...maybe I would have been in very low light? But as I’m more into photography very low light isn’t much good for me anyway..)

The only addition I have just ordered is an OEM harness from Amazon (OP/Tech) to use rather than the neck strap, I like this system a lot, I’ve ended up rather than use the harness, buying another set of the XL long loops .. needed to go through the rain guard on the Vortex.. and attaching to the rucksack I use for camera gear, ..working really well - see the pictures

See a few attached images that show the size against a ruler, how I found the original strap attached best and the op/tech attachment. Overall I’m very happy with the vortex and looking forward to getting out more with them!

#### 5 months in.. Never go out for a walk without them now.. they’ve been great .. unless your a dedicated birder (I wouldn’t class myself as one) it can seem like a lot of money to spend.. but they’re already starting to feel like one of those things that with a bit of care I can see myself using for many years.. worth the money !

Please are so much better than my old 800g Miranda (20x50 porro) set that it is difficult to be ‘objective’. They are clearer, brighter, with no noticeable vignette, wider pupil distance and bigger eye relief.

They come well equipped with cleaning cloth and a zipped carrying case with its own dedicated strap - I guess a generic case because my smallish 8×42 bins rattle around inside when being carried. I may put in a soft cloth for padding.

The strap is a bit fiddly to fix to the bins out of the box and I have passed the strap through a hoop on the eyepiece cover to avoid dropping it. I used the right-hand hoop as the left-hand hoop is split (see photo). I don’t know why this is.

The bins are comfortable to use but because my eyes are fairly close I have to adjust the lenses close together, with the result that there is barely enough room for my fingers/thumbs compared with my old porro set. Thick gloves will be a problem as with any bins of this design. Stereo version will also be impaired that’s what you get. I could buy a high magnification porro set for eg astronomical use. These ones are great for walking in the country and birdwatching. I like the dark green finish.
