I really like this little light

Weight/size/use: This is the real story. It's very small and very comfortable. Much smaller than it looks in the pictures and super light. Very good for an EDC. I've been walking around with it in my vest pocket and forget that it's there. It has a lanyard hole so can be on keys if it needs to be. This one is going to find it's way into a smaller go-bag or everyday bag. I can also see this being a good light to give to my wife or attach to my dog's leash. The USB charging means we wont have to worry about finding batteries, just topping it off every once in a while.

Button/ I like the button. Good size, good click, comfortable silicon. Actually, the more I use the button the more I like it. Also, it's easy to index. I would probably get in the habit of mechanically locking it out with a little twist of the head.

Battery/charging: It uses and 16430 battery, a good lithium battery comes with it. It's enough power to make it all night in an emergency situation if you bounce between low and medium. It charges fine. Charging indicator works.

Modes/Lumens: Modes and operation are very similar to the Olight it's pictured with. Which is a good thing. Press and hold for .05 lumen moonlight which is perfect for really dark places but not bright enough to alert other people. Double click for Turbo 500+lumens which is enough to completely fill a room. Then three basic levels in between.

Reflector/Beam: The reflector has a mild orange peal texture and is surprisingly deep for the size. It creates a very small and bright hot spot with very large dim flood. I can see this get used a lot on low levels to find keys and stuff at night without the flood filling the room and waking up your partner, or on higher levels to pin point what your dog is barking at during a walk.

LED/Color rendering/differentiation: The LED is a XP-G2 (CoolWhite). For many years this was my favorite LED and even though there are a lot of newer ones this works very well here. I don't know the exact CRI, but it always makes colors "pop" so differentiation is very easy. It's like a little search light.

Anodization/knurling/bezel: Anodization is basic matte black but clean clean and well done. So is the knurling. What's cool is it has, what I believe is, a matte stainless steel bezel. I've already dropped it a couple times and feel like it's the kind of thing you may just throw in a pocket and will occasionally fall while you're fumbling with other stuff... It's about the size of a chapstick and I drop that all the time.

Clip/hat/magnet: This is my favorite kind of clip. I wish more lights came with this. It's like a flattened S and can be clipped in either direction or on a hat with out changing it's position. The magnet is also very strong and can hold this light with a battery as well as another bigger light, also with a battery, dangling from it.

Water proofing: So far so good. I left it in a glass of water for a while. No issues. Also, its been traveling with me during this health crisis so I wash it when I wash my hands thoroughly and also no issues.

Box/packaging: Box is small and well secured. Instructions are simple and glossy.

Weapon light?: It feels like a modified version would make an excellent pistol light for a compact Glock. It wouldn't need the magnet in this case.

General impressions: Good, versatile light with a bunch of features that all work well, while still being super light and easy to throw in a bag or pocket and has a great UI that's simple enough for most people to use right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Combination of Throw and Flood
Reviewed in the United States on 15 November 2019
SUMMARY: This flashlight provides a great combination of throw light and flood light. I carry this flashlight all of the time when I take my dogs out early morning and at night. I have a couple of other really good LED flashlights but the Wowtac A5 is now my first choice to carry with me for general use. This light is a fantastic value and I would not hesitate to purchase again for myself or as a gift for someone. The photos above show the light on low, medium and high and I must say the iPhone camera does not do very well as it appears it lightened the brightness on low and subdued the brightness on high. Trust me folks, it is bright and on Turbo even brighter obviously.

DETAIL: We live on a hundred acres of forested land with meadows where mountain lions and coyotes are numerous. We raise Alpacas and also have three dogs so the presence of predators is a concern, especially in the hours of darkness. I will admit that I have been through several of the cheap $10-$20 LED flashlights and stupidly got pulled into their false claims of lumen output. I have since done my research and now realize those claims of high lumen output far exceed the capability of the LED emitter they have. I also have two other quality LED flashlights. One is strictly for throw and the other strictly for flood and both are great for those purposes. I didn't want to carry two flashlights when I need to check on the Alpacas or when I take the dogs out but still wanted to be able to spot something at distance as well as have enough flood light to cover a wider field of view. The Wowtac A5 has exceptionally full filled that need. All of the light modes are great but I will admit I keep it on high most of the time and occasionally kick it up to Turbo. On High the light output is amazing at ~1750 lumens and does not tail off over time and stays cool. And yes, the CREE XHP-70 LED emitter truly can produce the claimed 3650 lumens on Turbo mode. This is a well built and rugged flashlight that can be conveniently recharged without removing the battery. On-board charging is now a must for me in any future flashlight purchase. The included battery seems to be great quality. My only wish is that the On/Off switch were a bit larger as it has been a bit difficult to feel the switch with insulated gloves on. This flashlight is a great value and I would not hesitate to purchase again and just may do that so my wife can keep a flashlight in her coat pocket also.

UPDATE: I am so pleased with this flashlight that I am purchasing two more for Christmas gifts.
