BEWARE - the ones advertised with "au plug" are not genuine power supplies. The box has been opened up and the power supply has been swapped with a cheap "asian power devices inc" power supply.

The power supply is not a genuine WD power supply. And the item is not brand new if it has been opened and the contents tampered with.

I purchased this 10TB WD Elements Desktop Hard Drive on 5 April 2020 and shucked the internal hard drive for use in my Synology DS918+. The internal drive was a WD100EMAZ Sata 6GB/s white label drive made in Thailand on 03 SEP 2019, which is detected and works perfectly in the Synology NAS. (The full part number of the hard drive is WD100EMAZ-00WJTA0).
Very happy with the price $330 and cost per TB given the AUD/USD conversion rate as of April 2020.

I've had many of these kind of drives before, mostly 2TB and older versions.
Unlike the older versions, this 12TB version is lighter, smaller and incredibly much faster.
I backed up a 10TB server in less than 3 days. I did expect this to take a lot longer.
And yes, I did check that the backed up files were readable from my laptop, which was successful.
Highly recommended!

Works fine, does what I need it to do. The reason why I gave a 4 star and not a 5 star was because the Hard drive is not 5TB it is actually 4.54TB, but still as I said works fine. Recommend this product!

No external power is required. Speeds are quite adequate for using with the PS4 with games starting and running fine that are stored on it.

Very sorry I purchased a WD again and didn't learn from an earlier mistake. The lower price sucked me in but WD capacity is much lower than other brands. My Seagate 4TB has 3.9 TB capacity but this one had almost a full TB missing. Called WD and they told me this is standard for their product. Definitely worth paying a little extra and going with a trusted brand.

CRITICAL FAILURE - What happened to my 2 year warranty?

Have had several WD external hard drives to back up my photographs. This one started fine then BROKE! It kept switching off after a very short time making a whirring noise! Every time I try to use it Windows advises me that there is a problem and do I want it fixed? Windows cannot fix it and keeps giving me 'Access denied'.
SO WHAT HAPPENED TO MY 2 YEAR WARRANTY? - I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS A FEW MONTHS AND ONLY RECENTLY STARTED TO USE IT? Apparently the time to return it ran out in September! Next time I will buy one from PC World - at least I can walk into the shop.

UPDATE..
I contacted WD as per their site and was given excellent support. They initially gave me diagnostic advice which showed the device was faulty. They then gave me return instructions and a new one arrived shortly after. This is working fine. So, I give 5***** to WD. The problem with this type of device is that retailers seem reluctant to deal with warranty problems (I checked with PC world, who also said that I would have to deal with failure issues myself and not in-store -- so no advantage there.) I would recommend WD devices for PC use.

Multimedia Festplatte mit extrem schneller Datenübertragung

Eine Festplatte muss zuverlässig sein, sie muss die liebsten und wichtigsten Daten immer abrufbereithalten, langlebig und am besten portabel wo auch immer sie gebraucht wird sein.
Deshalb habe ich mich seit mir die ersten Festplatten anderer Hersteller kaputt gegangen sind nur noch für die zuverlässigen WD Festplatten entschieden und das seit mehr wie 8 Jahren.
Das soll schon mal heißen, dass die erste damals von mir gekaufte WD Festplatte noch genau so funktioniert wie am ersten Tag und mittlerweile besitze ich 10 Stück davon.
Die WD Festplatten überzeugen mich besonders in der Schreib und Lesegeschwindigkeit über den USB 3.0 Anschluss.
Ohne zusätzlichen Netzbetrieb, überall schnell einsetzbar wo ein USB Anschluss zu Verfügung ist.
Egal für welche Zwecke, ob für Datensicherung oder Multimedia über unser WD TV, war auf diese Festplatten immer verlass.
Da wir aber überwiegend, die etwas größere 2 TB nutzen, könnt ihr auch gleich den Unterschied zwischen 1 TB und 2 TB in der Größe auf den Fotos sehen, diese unterscheiden sich aber nur in der Höhe um grade mal 6 mm.
Ansonsten sind sie gleich! 11,3 x 8,3 x 1 cm, vom Gewicht kaum zu spüren.
Besonderheiten für die Inbetriebnahme gibt es hier für Windows Nutzer nicht. Ist die Platte angeschlossen und aktiv, wird es über eine weiße Diode angezeigt.
WD Elements ist für den Betrieb in einem PC vorkonfiguriert und NTFS Vorformatiert für Windows 10, Windows 8 und Windows 7. Also plag & play. Oder wenn man möchte, oder für bestimmte Hardware Vorrausetzung, mit dem Dateisystem ExFAT oder FAT32 formatieren.
Bei Mac Nutzern sieht es allerdings schon wieder ganz anders aus, hier muss die Festplatte entweder mit ExFAT oder HSF+J (für die Benutzung mit Time Machine) formatiert werden. Hierfür kann entweder die Disk Utility app des Mac genutzt oder die WD Drive Utitlities Software herunterladen werden.

Auf der Suche nach einer "kleinen" Backup-Lösung bin ich bei der WD Elements Portable gelandet, die meiner Meinung nach ein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis haben.
Wichtig war mir, dass kein externes Netzteil für den Betrieb benötigt wird und die Festplatte möglichst klein und dadurch entsprechend mobil bleibt, was hier klar der Fall ist. Das Design ist schlicht aber durchaus schick gehalten - weniger ist manchmal mehr! Bei Aktivität der Festplatte leuchtet eine weiße LED, mehr nicht. Ein ca. 50cm langes USB-Kabel befindet sich im Lieferumfang. Die Installation geschieht auf Windows-PCs per Plug&Play, d. h. die Festplatte wird sofort als externer Datenträger erkannt. Auf MACs muss die HDD mit dem Festplattendienstprogramm in HFS+ formatiert werden, dann arbeitet diese auch problemlos am iMac sowie an meinem Macbook.

Die HDD arbeitet fast unhörbar und dank USB 3.0 auch mit sehr hoher Geschwindigkeit - für den normalen Anwender sollte das auf jeden Fall passen, ich bin auf jeden Fall zufrieden. Aufgrund der teilweise durchwachsenen Rezensionen hier auf Amazon zu dieser Festplattenserie macht es auf jeden Fall Sinn, die HDD regelmäßig mit einer Software auf Fehler zu überprüfen (das gilt eigentlich für jede Art von Festplatte ...), um keinen Datenverlust zu erleiden. WD bietet "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic" eine eigene Lösung an, im Freeware-Bereich gibt es sicher aber auch Alternativen dazu.

Ich habe die 2TB-Version im Einsatz und bin bisher zufrieden - ggf. erfolgt hier aber nach entsprechender Zeit ein Update der Rezension, falls nötig. Bis dahin vergebe ich 5 Sterne für die WD Elements - Kauftipp!

Dès que j'arrive en bout de stockage de disque, je rachète un disque de stockage du double de ce que j'ai.
Je suis passé du 125gb au 250gb au 500gb au 1T au 2T et enfin au 4T.
J'ai encore mes 125gb, qui ne me servent plus à rien bien sûr.
J'ai acheté plusieurs marques, seegate, sanmsung toshiba freecom et surtout WD.
Jamais je dis bien jamais un seul de mes WD n'est tombé en panne. Contrairement à d'autres marques, plus petits plus rapides.....plus cher... tous ces petits plus je les payent au centuples quand ce disque tombe en panne.
Je ne comprends pas les commentaires négatifs sur ce produit.
Il est lent, il est gros, il est pas très beau MAIS il est solide.
Certains déplorent le fait que le disque ne marche pas sur la télé. TOUS les disques qui ne sont pas formatés FAT32 ne sont pas compatibles télé.
De temps en temps il faut le faire reconnaitre par le PC ( surtout si vous utilisez beaucoup d'extensions)
Mais je n'ai jamais perdu de données avec un WD. Contrairement à seagate ou freecom.
J'en prends soin aussi, je n'utilise pas les soft de sauvegarde intégrés, je ne crypte pas. Le point faible est la connexion de sortie. En général je laisse le câble sur le disque pour éviter trop de mauvaise manip.
Bref pour moi, rapport qualité prix optimum.
2 disques à chaque fois. C'est mon serveur perso et portable.

Festplatte für PS4

Um den Speicher meiner PS4 zu entlasten musste eine externe Festplatte her.
Kurzentschlossen kaufte ich das 2017er Modell mit 2 TB.
Frisch ausgepackt schloss ich die Platte an und die PS4 wollte keine externe Festplatte erkennen.
Nach kurzer Panik, gemischt mit Frust versuchte ich mein Glück die Platte an mein Laptop anzuschließen. Siehe da, dort wurde die Platte gefunden.
Sicherheitshalber formatiert und nochmals an die PS4.
Wieder wurde nichts erkannt.
Schlussendlich wurde der Fehler behoben, indem ich das Kabel ausgetaucht habe. Zum Glück habe ich noch eine Platte, deren Kabel ich austauschen konnte.
Mit dem „alten“ Kabel wurde die neue Festplatte umgehend erkannt und formatiert.
Also Obacht; wenn die Platte nicht erkannt wird, kann es am Kabel liegen…
