I enjoyed it but didn’t love love it like I thought I would. It took me a few chapters to get into the story but I was very intrigued with JLAs take on fae.
I’m loving Ivy and Ren, oh especially REN he reminds me so much of Lucifer from the Netflix show with his humor and sexual innuendos 😆
Now I kinda guessed the ending to a point, so at the moment I’m feeling a bit meh about reading the next book as I feel like it going to be dragged out for too long so 🤷🏼♀️ Maybe I’ll read, maybe I won’t and I’ll wait a bit before trying again.
I was really hoping to love this 🙁 but I do find a mood reader and I’m not feeling excited about the next one.
Bit put one thing I did love was Tink!!

" His curls were mussed from sleep, adorably disheveled from what we'd just done as he turned his head to me. "Can I keep you?" "
I was recommended the Wicked trilogy after finishing From Blood & Ash and A Kingdom of Flesh & Fire, and needed some more new adult fantasy romance from Jenn to tie me over till April 2021 release of Crown of Gilded Bones- And Wicked so far has done that!
Wicked follows fae fighting, Ivy Morgan. Who is part of the Order - An fae fighting (and killing) secret group, raised from birth to protect the world from the underworld. Ivy is based in New Orleans and on one patrol, bumps into one of the "ancient" fae who shoots her.
Swing in Ren. A member of the Order but also of a secret group - The Elite. Who not just kill fae, but are also destined to kill the ancient.
Ren automatically forms an attraction to Ivy, which Ivy also can't deny. They then begin a fae-fighting relationship that is not just steamy, but also full of loyalty and love.
But gosh that cliffhanger..!!!! I had a feeling she was more than she is (no spoiler here!).
Overall, 4.5/5 Stars for me and straight on to Torn the sequel!

I loved everything about this book!
Ivy is an amazing character - she is a tough chick but at the same time wants to be more than a hunter. She wants to do more with her life. She has a big heart that gets her into trouble but she tries to keep it closed off from everyone else. She can't lose anyone else that she loves. She's also sassy and funny. I loved her inner-thoughts!
Ren - the sexy, hot alpha. Oh how this man went from annoying to swoon worthy! His character development in this book was pure gold! He's a hunter but not just any hunter, he's an Elite! He has a greater purpose which I loved learning about.
Tink - I loved that little guy! His character had me laughing all through the book!
This book seriously got more and more interesting as the story progressed. The plot line is intriguing and keeps you guessing all the way through!
I can't wait to read the next book! Well done Ms Armentrout!

I felt a bit like I wasn't going to love this story so I dragged out reading this for aaaaages, which for me is weird given I am a HUGE JA fan, but I soon realised she's a bit like the mafia, once you're in you're in and there is no getting out...she just keeps pulling you back in... Cannot wait to jump right into the next awesome episode of this world. Thanks again JA

Whilst I enjoyed this story I really felt that the depth and the way in which it was written would be better suited to young adult BUT the sex scenes and swearing does not make it suitable. Compared to other fantasy romances in this price range the feel of the whole book, storyline and characters, just felt a little immature to me. Still an okay read.

Enjoyed the story line
Plenty of twists and turns
Narration good
Only negative is the story seems to repeat
Sometimes. Almost like the author is just dragging the story out to get pages numbers

She's done it again. Jennifer L. Armentrout has delivered another beginning to what I'm sure will be an epic series. This book had me hooked all the way.

Awful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 May 2020Verified Purchase
This is one of the worst books I've read in a long time. I got 30% of the way through and gave up due to it being utter drivel. The plot was predictable, the characters were flat and one-dimensional, everything is weirdly sexual when it really doesn't have to be, and the love interest gets away with being creepy (breaking into her house and bedroom whilst she's asleep) because he's attractive. The second she claps eyes on him she falls in lust and spends the rest of the time thinking about how hot he is, because the author has put absolutely no effort into characterisation it seems that Ivy's entire personality now revolves around some guy she's just met.
This book is unoriginal and cringey. I feel like the author is trying to write a strong female protagonist but Ivy falls completely short of the mark. I rarely give up on books but this one really was too rubbish to comprehend. I could not recommend that you avoid this book enough.

My favorite of all three books
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 May 2020Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this first book.
We got to know our heroine Ivy, who hunts fae because she's part of the Order and she's able to see beneath the glamour the fae cast.
Things get a little bit complicated when a new member joins - our hero, Ren. Apparently, he's not the simply hunter and things were about to be happening.
I don't really want to give anything away, other than this has to be the best of all three books. I liked the dynamic between the MCs, I really liked Ren and how it wasn't insta-love, but not a painfully dragged out slow burn. So it's in-between, just the way I like it.
Oh and my absolute favorite character is Tink. Hands-down, he's a constant, in all three books.
4.5 stars.

I've fallen in love with another fictional man...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 November 2020Verified Purchase
I’ve read quite a few fae-adjacent books this year but I really liked Armentrout’s take; it felt fresh and engaging and I loved the juxtaposition of modern New Orleans with murderous ancient fae.
This book was another master class from Armentrout in worldbuilding - I fell right into the story and, although the plot was a little predictable, it was fast paced and engaging - I didn’t want it to end!
It took me a couple of chapters to get her but by half way through I loved Ivy - she’s sassy, sarcastic and super relatable… Yet another strong female lead for me to fall in love with! I really loved that she was three dimensional and wanted more from life other than just being a badass.
And then there is mother fecking Ren - I literally do not have the words to describe how unbelievably attractive I found this fictional character. Unfortunately (for him, not me) I read FBAA first so Hawke is like MY GUY but Ren is an *incredibly* close second. I loved his humour, his strength and most of all his compassion. This book is nicely balanced between slow-burn romance and smut central.

Compelling

This takes a little while to take off, but once it does it is sort of compelling.
Ivy is in the Order and dedicates her life hunting faes. Something that she is born into. She doesn't let anyone too close to her because of her past mistakes and pain.
Ren is transfered in from another part of the country. He is good looking with a sarcastic and cheeky personality.
When the two of them meet, it's instant dislike from her part. He likes her and when they get together, it's like they are meant to be. They have secrets, but once they feel comfortable with each other, they spill. The twist at the end could be what destroys them.
Although a little predictable, it's a great storyline which is incentive enough to find out what happens in the next installment.

A wicked read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 January 2021Verified Purchase
Ivy has lost everyone she’s ever loved in a world where fae are very real and very dangerous so now she spends her life fighting to protect the people of New Orleans from the mass of Fae that are inhabiting the city. Working for a secret organisation called the Order, she patrols the city sending any Fae she finds to hell or back to their other world. After shutting herself off to love for years she finally meets a new and intriguing order member that makes her want to experience life again, against her better judgement.
A story full of danger, desire and deception, wicked brilliantly paves the way for an interesting story as secrets and lies are uncovered that could make friends become villains and lovers become enemies. I’m excited to start the next book in the trilogy!
