This one took 2 minutes to do the initial setup and the app was easy to use. Was able to change the default password straightaway (the previous purchase would block access "incorrect password" every time you changed it and you had to do a hard reset).
Immediately had the iPhone app sending motion detection alerts - on my phone and my watch. Checked the app when away from my home/network and could view the live feed no problem.
Then accessed the camera via its IP address from a browser on my Mac and configured it to send email alerts on motion detection and to FTP images and video to my local NAS drive.
I could also access it via Surveillance Station on my NAS via their Mac desktop app (as it uses the standard ONVIF protocols), giving me more options for record, detection and alerts.
On top of all that, also have it recording on a loop on the internal SD card (not provided). So, plenty of redundancy should there ever be a problem.
Have yet to check the wifi strength once placed up outside (above front door). And the screws you use to access the SD card port are weak and liable to strip if you're not especially careful. Finally, like them all it seems, the cords are short (had to buy a DC extension cable), but the joins will be outside so need to be sure they are waterproofed.
Would definitely recommend (so far) for ease of setup and if you want something you can also access from a Mac.

Setting it up was easy. There are a few methods, I chose the simplest one of powering it from the mains and plugging in into my router so that it could be reached on my local network before giving it my wifi settings.
Ignore the adapter cables if you're quickly setting it up without POE (power over ethernet). There are 3 cables coming out of the camera. One for power, one for ethernet and one is a reset button. With this method power the camera from the mains with the adapter and plug the supplied yellow ethernet cable in to the camera and your router. Install the app on your phone/tablet and use that to find the camera, set a password and have it join your wifi.
The way the menu is laid out is not obvious why at first but it does make sense. If you're using it for motion detection then "Alarm Setting" is what you'd use regularly for on/off. Then what it does if triggered is under the menu page "Action with Alarm" and the other menu pages are for configuration of specific things.
Having tested the camera I would recommend not using an old 4 speed micro sd card for recording if you want it to record and FTP snapshots. Sandisk do a 10 speed micro sd card thats built for constant writing and cold weather so I got one of those and that fixed that problem.
You can FTP or email 1 to 3 snapshots when movement detection occurs. These take time to complete depending on your broadbands upload speed. I've only done snapshots as video would take too long to upload for me. It seemed to be roughly 20-30 seconds for me before another event occurred if movement was still happening. It's good to have images stored off site in case a burglar takes time to remove the camera or micro sd card (which is screwed inside).
I have my own website so I FTP images to a password protected directory. The camera creates a dated directory and a subfolder for images (or recording if video). The server naturally shows the filenames in a list. I personally made a php script in the root which lists the folder names (with option to delete) and when selected an phone size list of thumbnails (newest first) which only download the actual large image when clicked.
As the snapshots may miss the best frame or naturally fast movement in a photography isn't sharp I also record the video. This can either be done only when movement is triggered or all day. I'm using all day so I've an archive of footage for even if movement detection didn't happen quick enough, like for when my neighbour reversed into my house! The videos (at Bit Rate 1536 which is adjustable are each between 20 - 50mb for 10 minutes, so I estimate I'll have a rolling 9 days of footage on a 64GB micro sd card.
I have a recording schedule of 600 seconds "All Day" enabled. This can be access in the App in the Video tab under "Online" though it is stored on the cameras micro sd card. This records six 10 minute videos an hour labeled "Plan Recording". If "Alarm SD REC" is set and then the label may be a red "Alarm Recording" if movement detection was on and something triggered it. If I record anything larger it would tedious to download, and anything too small tedious to search for and download each video needed.
If you choose to Download them via the app they move to the "Local" tab, where they can be viewed easier or downloaded/converted out of the app to the phones/tablets images area.
The way I use the camera is:
1) First the camera notifies me of detected movement via push notification to make me aware.
2) I can use the app to view what the camera is seeing or go to my webpage to see what has been FTP'd via the motion detection.
I could download the recorded video but this takes time. Streaming may timeout so I would review this after the event or unscrew the camera to retrieve the micro sd card and use VLC software to view the video directly (file type 264).
I would highly recommend this security camera for the price and will be buying another.
