I have dedicated Home Theatre room with large 4K UHD projector BENQ W11000, (2200 ANSI), 120 inches Elite AEO Acoustic Pro UHD screen with in wall built Monitor Audio Dolby Atmos speaker system with additional SVS subwoofer. I really enjoy my HT room however I needed something smaller to carry around and to use at the karaoke party at friend's house or to watch movie in the backyard. I was ready to place the order for Nebula Capsule 2 but when I realised that Nebula Capsule 2 is only 200 ANSI lumens I decided to look somewhere else.
I was reading the review of XGIMI MoGo Pro (300 ANSI lumens) and realised that more powerful projector XGIMI Halo 800 ANSI lumens was released just few weeks ago. There were no many reviews of XGIMI Halo but on the paper the projector ticked all boxes - it is true HD projector 1920 x 1080p, has WiFi and Chromecast built in, it has 800 ANSI lumen when plugged into wall or 600 ANSI when running on battery, 1 x HDMI and USB port, Harman Kardon stereo speakers, remote control and battery that last 3 hours.
I unpacked the projector and projected the video on the white wall. The projector has autofocus and in just a few seconds the picture was sharp. I was really impressed with the brightness and quality of the video when projector was running on battery. The first two photos are of the movie projected on the white wall, in dark room, while the projector was running on battery. This is definitely not a toy even when running on battery. It is small in size but big on picture and sound. Two Harman Kardon speakers provided more than adequate sound for the reasonably large bedroom ( 3,3 m x 5 m).
I plugged the projector into the wall socket and noticed that picture is brighter with the better contrast. I projected video on ELITE Yard Master 2, 100 inches screen with 1.1 gain. Just to remind, 100 inches is 4 x 50 inches TV. There is noticeable difference between projecting the video on dedicated projector screen vs projecting on the wall. Certainly you can increase the projection size beyond 100 - 120 inches but you need a huge white wall to project video and the brightness will drop significantly.
As you can see from enclosed photos first photo was taken when video was projected on the wall and the projector was running on the battery. The other photos were projected on Elite screen and the projector was plugged in the wall therefore shining all 800 ANSI lumens.
Netflix is not available for some reason however STAN and Disney are available. AMAZON Prime is coming in January 2020. STAN is Australia's leading local streaming service, offering unlimited access to thousands of hours of TV shows and movies from around the world.
The projector was ordered on Amazon US and arrived to Sydney - Australia from Hong Kong in just few days. In my opinion this amazing little and portable HD projector is really good value for money as

The projector's hardware alone does not support lag-free streaming. Every 5-10 seconds the screen will pause for a few seconds. The audio continues coming through clear, but the image freezes up constantly when watching Hulu. Plugging in our Apple TV from the TV we had that Halo replaces solved this issue. If you purchase Halo, make sure you have an Apple TV or Firestick or Roku to use with it or you are better off with a different projector. Also, the most recent update was supposed to support Netflix. This was not the case. Netflix is still not supported. Of course, this doesn't matter, since we are forced to use our Apple TV with it now. We just purchased a shelf to put this on top off out of eye view. I had wanted to keep it off to the side of our bed, but it really is too bright and started hurting my eyes just after a couple of times walking up to my side of the bed. Not looking at the light doesn't matter - it's still hitting your eyes if you're walking its general direction. Manual keystone correction takes a while and requires a measuring tape or ruler. It's impossible to visualize a perfect circle as it instructs. And if your a perfectionist, give up. there's no horizontal or vertical centerlines projected onto the circle so it really is a guess. Don't attempt it without a ruler or measuring tape or you will definitely be off. A 20%-30% error looks like a perfect circle to an untrained eye. However, I am happy it comes with horizontal keystone correction. Most projectors, even expensive ones, do not. I am not afraid of a few minutes of set-up so this was not a huge dealbreaker. Overall, I had higher expectations, but you still can't beat the clear image and portability for the price. Our room is small - we live in LA so it's a 500 SF one bedroom, so from front wall to back wall is 8-ft and it's projecting a 90" screen, super clear image, and very bright. We can even watch with the lights on no problem. Of course the lights on washes the image a bit, but it's still very clear. I was afraid of the low 800 ANSI lumens compared to other projectors, but it actually is perfect and bright. We don't need anything brighter. Also, the speaker, is loud. Placing it on a shelf above us is necessary because it is too loud when placed on my bedside table. We just bought a pull down projector screen for this and it'll be even easier to see with lights on then. I would definitely purchase again.
Largest downside is lack of Netflix compatibility. I also own XGIMI Z6 polar which is my comparison product. Z6 is way cheaper, same picture quality, better remote features (gyroscopic Bluetooth mouse built into remote...which the halo remote lacks), and the Z6 polar has a Netflix app that works. However, the halo can download KODI without a fire stick taking up the USB port. In order to watch amazon or Netflix on the halo I’ve been using an external Apple TV, which makes the minimal projector set up, well, less minimal/portable.
Biggest upside, it’s portable, which means we can make a drive in movie theater a reality, bring it on a sunset picnic, or wherever our hearts desire.
While I enjoy this projector, I’m not sure it’s worth $900.00. You can find a decent sized 4K TV for that price.
Quick and easy set up. Able to access Amazon Prime, Disney plus and my other apps without any problems. The projector has auto focus and throws a great image. I was watching an 80 inch image with the Halo about 7 feet away from the wall. The sound worked well for movies in our basement entertainment area without needing extra speakers. Looking forward to using outside during summer nights and parties. Will also be used in an RV during trips. Would definitely recommend for someone looking for a nice compact quality projector.
