If the reader expects historical fiction to be credible and entertaining then the Whale Road Chronicles and Odin's Game will be an excellent choice. The series starts on Iceland with a mother and teenage son as refugees from an enigmatic past. Iceland is special in being community focused, rather than the brutal autocracy of the Norse world. The ongoing tale is of the son's coming of age amidst that world, and his expected heroic deeds and success. The writer is well versed in the background of Viking history, technology and geography. The tale is somewhat formulaic but abounds in action aplenty, detailed and gory. An easy read.
