Wow. Just wow. This is definitely the author’s best work yet (at least that I’ve read). The characters - even the minor ones - come to life in this story and you find yourself invested whether or not they appear in the story for long. The story sweeps you up and doesn’t let you go as you follow Poppy and Hawke on their journey. Even though I saw the main twist coming, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading it and liked the fresh take on the creatures in this novel.
The world building is effortless - slowly revealed during the story in a way that is believable and not clunky at all. I love Poppy. She is strong, resilient and always questioning. And while she is a bad ass fighter, I think her compassion is her greatest strength. Lastly, Hawke. I mean, I haven’t had a crush on a book character like this in a long time. I don’t think I could resist if I was Poppy either.
Can’t wait for the next book. I hope I don’t have to wait too long!
