If you use your phone as a GPS, and not illegally as a phone in your car and don't want a VERY large fine for doing that, and put it sideways like a GPS, it takes two hands to put it in and take it out.
Putting it in requires holding the phone in the correct position and holding the bracket still while you push it against the button.
Taking it out requires holding the phone while you push the two 'clips' together, which also sometimes don't lock and you have to do it again, and you need two hands, the second to hold the phone so you don't drop the phone.
My previous bracket in the car was not a charger, so that's why I got this as a much more expensive 'update', and yes it charges,
But my previous bracket was much easier to put the phone in and remove it - in that old bracket you squeezed the bracket on the phone and it held it in place without trouble, and with the old bracket, just press a button at the back of the bracket to release it.
I do much prefer the old one how it mounts and un-mounts the phone vs this one, since the old one is much easier.
But as mentioned, the old one had no charger behind the phone.
This was an expensive upgrade, but alas worse at mounting and un-mounting the phone.
Only 3 stars, since it's expensive but not well designed.
I just purchased one of these for myself and went for the AC vent because I find my phone overheats otherwise (joy of summer in Australia). Unfortunately I have had trouble getting it to secure properly. My vents are really thin and it doesn’t quite tighten enough to properly clamp on. Managed to jam it in with something to space it. Still a great product, absolutely recommended, just keep vent size in mind.
- The suction dash mount which holds great on top of the dash.
- The CD mount holds good in a Subaru Outback GEN4, but the CD mount fitted more secure upside-down with the extra little clip in.
Fits my larger Samsung S10 5G with Spigen Tough Armor case or Ghostek Covert³ Case.
Also Samsung S7 with Spigen Neo Hybrid case.
Also the AUX is still accessible when in the holder.

I am not disappointed by the build quality (it is very good) and the Wireless charging works well on my Samsung S9+, however I have given this 3 stars because of the awful dashboard mounting. I thoroughly cleaned my dashboard before fitting, however within a very short period the adhesive on the plastic dashboard disk peeled away. After sticking it back on a couple of times it had completely lost its stickiness. This has forced me to suction mount on my windscreen once more and looking at the suction cup mechanism, it appears to be almost identical to the £10 'disposable' items I have used before. I sincerely hope I am wrong and that this device will outlive the UV punishment it is going to get next summer, however I do not believe it will.
Come on iOttie, this is a premium well constructed product, why ruin the experience with a cheap dashboard mount that is not fit for purpose?
Very limited swivel makes hard to find comfortable phone position.
Dispite some flaws it's very good phone holder and fast wireless charger.
Had my doubts about the CD clamp but it's ridiculously sturdy.
Charges my phone faster than I would have ever believed possible.
Grip is stupidly strong.
My previous phone mount was a metal jaw-type vice from Ulanzi. I liked the construction, and I had no reservations about using it, but of course it was a "dumb" mount with no charger built in. My phone also pushed the bolt it used to draw the jaws together to the limits of it's length, and with just an extra turn or two from the "wide enough" point, the whole thing would come apart.
Fully open, this IOttie charger still has a half inch open space on either side on my IPhone 11 Pro Max (which is also inside a Lifeproof case), and of course it can't come apart. While made of plastic, it's not the thin flimsy plastic that many phone mounts are made of that suggest to me they came out of a 3d printer. It feels appropriate to it's purpose. Solid, confidence inspiring.
The Qi charger was why I got it, and it's worked exactly as I wanted it too. I kind of wish it was just a usb connection on the end, or that such a power point was at least an option, but the 12V plug at least has a usb port built right in. It just would have been easier for me to plug it in to a dash USB port that sits almost directly under it. [Edit: The cord is replaceable, I realized when I bought the second. I just used my own Micro USB cords and problem solved). It was easy to set the bottom "feet" to a pre-set position that was explained on the instruction sheet, and I don't have problems with the charging going on and off no matter the terrain. That is a problem I have with a Qi Charger that sits on my desk, and never moves. I often have to reposition my phone on that, so I feel like that was a win for the IOttie.
Finally, I use the CD mount to attach it to my dash, in one vehicle, and this design is _solid_. I was actually afraid I might tear my stereo head unit apart when it was setting it up. Of course, that's a ridiculous fear, but that's how strong it felt to be clamping in there. A far cry from my previous mount which used a screw to force plates up and down away from one another and was always working it's way out of the cd tray.
Overall, I'm very happy and I will be buying one for my other vehicle and tossing out the cheap vent mounted phone holder I have in there now.
