I've been struggling for a little while with a Samsung TV that doesn't passthrough Dolby 5.1 to the optical output. This means that my Sonos Playbar wont play 5.1 if I plug my FireTV in to the TV HDMI. Same is true if I want to use Freesat or Virgin cable. To overcome this I've previously used a HDMI switch and a Harmony Hub to control it all. It worked but it was all a little complex and untidy with all the resultant cabling. This box fixed that. I just plugged my FireTV into it and plugged it into the TV HDMI. I now get 5.1 passthrough to my Playbar. I'm using the built in TV tuner at the moment, so OK, I will need another box if I want to use Freesat or Cable but I've now done away with the mess of a switch and saved me buying a new TV.

Blu ray to Sonos Beam sound at last!!!

The is doing exactly what I bought it for. To convert DTS to Dolby Digital for the blu ray discs that were unable to play via my Sonos Beam. This clever little converter sends the signal via HDMI to the Beam which now recognises the signal which is confirmed by the Sonos controller app as receiving Dolby Digital 2.0. I’m still experimenting with other discs and settings but I’m just chuffed that it’s not an expensive trip for a new blu ray player. I do blame Sonos for not recognising other codecs as I know I’m not the only one with this problem according to the many forums I’ve looked at. For £17 this is a great compromise until I can find a compatible Blu ray player that converts these signal at source. Highly recommended.
****Update**** having played around with this device a bit more I've found that any disc with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack will play through the Beam as Dolby Digital 5.1 which is exactly what you want to hear coming from your Beam. If the disc being played only has DTS soundtrack options it you will only output Stereo through the Beam, and bizarrely DD5.1 soundtracks appear to come through as Dolby Digital 2.0. (I've tried all settings on the device and cant seem to change this to 5.1). All above confirmed by the Sonos app controller. Hope this info helps.

Had issues with audio passthrough on my tv as its a 2011 model.

Many suggestions from various forums stated that if i used a kwmobile switch it will assist in passing the passthrough 5.1 to my sonos beam.

However, this did not work for me. Tried all possible variations without any success.

Bought this product this week and very happy with the quality of the item and the speed of delivery but it doesn’t perform the way that I’d understood that it would do from the other reviews and product descriptions. I bought it specifically to convert the audio from DTS master audio blu ray discs into another 5.1 surround format that would play through the setup of Sony UBP-X800 BD player to Sony KD-55AF8 TV to Sonos Beam all using HDMI connections. What it appears to do is down sample the audio into HD, 5.1 or stereo of the same format i.e. DTS MA to DTS HD, 5.1, or 2.0, or Dolby Atmos to Dolby HD, 5.1 or 2.0. In combination with the various audio options it also down samples the video content to other pixel densities, i.e. 4K, 1080 or 720.

Bought to correct the link between a PS4 pro and a Sonos beam whereby the beam would only output blu ray in stereo (but did games and streaming in 5.1)

Did absolutely nothing to resolve the problem.

Returned for refund.

It would appear from the amount of traffic on the Sonos help page about this issue it may be something specific to the PS4 in which case not down to this product not working.
