AT 70 years old I'm not going far from home. But I do target shoot and hunt deer still. I have followed Steven on his Netflix series and have a couple of his Meateater books. I bought this book to read at home with a view to never going anywhere further than the supermarket. But I have have an interest in the wild outside, as I'd say many others have. This book is full of all you'd need to know to survive in the big world. A great read with many tips on even the basic needs both far away and if your only in your garden.
After several months of hype I received my copy of this book which I ordered pre-release. To provide context, I have over 40 years experience in the backcountry in northern Canada and Alaska, but I’m not naive and am always looking to learn new or different wilderness survival skills. Overall this book essentially repackages much of the basic information found in other survival guides and manuals, but is written in a 1950’s esc tone. The information is most relevant to individuals with no prior experience in the outdoors beyond trips to urban parks or commercial campgrounds. I had high hopes for this book but regrettably, was quite disappointed.
I really like how practical of a resource this really is. Not one of those guides with a ton of pictures and graphics with complex solutions to situations that sell books, but you will not find yourself in.
This guide give you the practical sense you need in the bush with details on how and when to use the advice. Lots of focus on preparations you should take to keep yourself out of trouble and what not to waste your time on.
Received the book very quickly, although the cover and first 6 pages were put in the package with the corner heavily bent. There is a heavy crease on the cover wich is unfortunate as it was meant as a gift..
