I’ve tried a few times to write something compelling and insightful about this book. Each time, I don’t think what I say can do it justice. As a man in his late 30s who has always had an illusion of working to get nice things and being happy, but ultimately being stressed and sometimes pretty lost. On the surface I have a great job , a wife and daughter and great friends ... But it didn’t seem enough. I couldn’t put my finger on what it was ... it just sat in the background niggling me. I had times at work and home where I wanted to ‘give up’ ( not in the hanging myself sense - but walking away and saying screw it ). In these ‘odd times’ I’ve had some down time, and a chance to start sparking some of the things that make me .... well actually me ! This book has helped me and confirmed A LOT of things. I’m sure some bosses will read this and think it’s all cr*p as it doesn’t contain the Victorian method of extracting the maximum from their staff by Hook or by crook , no matter what the method ( usually not nice ). I’m sure some bosses still think that ‘staff should be lucky to have jobs’. I am fortunate enough to have many people under me , I’ve always been pretty emotionally intelligent but this book really imprints these ideas and I’m really looking forward to putting more of this into practice. It really is basic - Be kind , be open , be authentic , Be thoughtful, be positive, be smart ,Be grateful and you don’t Have to be a massive douche to be ‘ successful ‘. We’re here for a good time folks, not a long time! I’m getting my bosses a couple of these books ( when Amazon gets them back in stock ). Just read the book - I promise it’s amazing. Thanks for reading.
This is a powerful book that will help you tap in your inner potential and help support you in your work, whether you are a senior business leader, a manager or an ambitious individual striving for success.
It is an easy read and broken up into three parts:
- Part 1 - Introduces you to the idea of the Soulprint and helps you uncover your foundational values - Part 2 - Delves deeper into the four elements of Deep Connections, Mastering Unfuckwithability, Making growth the Ultimate Goal and Choosing your Mission - Part 3 - Shows you how you can become a visionary
Vishen uses the power of story very well. He inspires with his own story of the struggles he had and how the decisions he made changed the trajectory of his career and where Mindvalley is today. The book is not just focussed on him and gives several examples of other leaders and organisations and what he has learnt from them.
Each chapter comes with its own tools, techniques, tactics and thought experiments. These are a very powerful aspect of the book. The book is not just about Vishen talking about himself and Mindvalley, he provides great frameworks and each chapter shows you how you can use these tools and techniques and apply them in your own setting.
For example in Part 1 - The Origin Story Exercise to extract foundational values is very powerful and for business leaders, the power of a Manifesto and crafting a vivid vision is a great tool. Each chapter has great tools and techniques which Vishen had tested with his company with tremendous success and he provides an easy to understand mechanism to implement those ideas.
If you have read the Code of the Extraordinary Mind, listened to Vishen on his podcasts, read his blog/social media posts, or taken some of his courses on Mindvalley then you will be familiar with some of the content of the book e.g. Means Goals vs End Goals, 3 Most Important Questions, 6-phase Meditation, being Unfuckwithable, Envisioning Techniques or Alpha/Theta/Delta/Gamma states.
But this book is not rehashing those techniques. They are included as they have a clear space and they are explained in the context of work and organisation. The book is about leadership and there is so much in there. Many additional tools, techniques and ways of thinking. Concepts such as Idea sex, brain coupling, OODA - Observe-Orient-Decide-Act are just a few of the tools and techniques Vishen teaches.
Vishen shares great learnings from his teachers like Srikumar Rao, Reverend Michael Beckwith, Lisa Nichols, Cameron Herold, Richard Branson, Bob Proctor, Naveen Jain just to name a few and all the great Mindvalley teachers and authors who have influenced how Vishen thinks and how he runs his organisation. This means that there are gems of information in each and every chapter and whilst they do not go into huge amounts of depth, they are able to spark ideas within and are great enablers to see the Buddha and Badass framework and how it can be leveraged.
Whilst the book has frameworks that Senior Business Leaders would use and find incredibly useful, the same frameworks can be used by an individual for their own projects and ideas. The ideas in the book are disruptors and the more people who have this understanding and move away from their usual models of reality, belief systems or autopilot ways of viewing workplaces, the better. So if you are thinking that you don't run a company and therefore don't need these tools, these can help you with any aspect of your work and career and maybe help you find strategies to indirectly or directly influence what happens within your organisation through living these values yourself and being a radiant exemplar.
If you want the tool that transforms your identity and drive work with your vision, values, purpose and strategies that change the world, as well as those of your coworkers, collaborators and team, then this book is going to support you in making that happen! Vishen brings in his story at rock bottom to changing the working landscape to something that's vivid, profound and unique. His methods are approaches that in our current working culture can be a game-changer to how you conduct your work for the better. A great advantage in his writing is that he also teaches you how to apply these methods in a synchronous and simple way. I'm implementing each method step-by-step and seeing upshifts in my life. And with my career shift, I'm already seeing results. I highly recommend this book to anyone making the best of their mission.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking to change the way they work in a more streamline way. Vishen gives so many thoughts, ideas and plans on how you can change the way you work which are so easy to implement and the results are outstanding. This book has made me see how easy it is to manage work and your personal life so I really feel fully happy all around in my life.
