This book was neither as clever nor as funny as I expected it to be. IDK, maybe funny things that kids say are only funny if your own kid says them.
The book is ostensibly 215 pages long, but unfathomably 16 of these pages are completely blank. There seems to be an uptick in blank pages towards the end of the book. An additional 12 pages merely contain a pattern, usually continued from the page opposite.
I won’t be reading it again. My daughter, on the other hand, has already read it twice. I’m attaching my favorites.
My daughter and I absolutely love this book. The quotes are so sweet and Marty's illustrations are just PERFECT. My very favorite thing, though - is when my daughter "reads" the book to me (she's 3.5). Her interpretations of the illustrations (which are actually often pretty right on) make me just beam. We take turns reading it several times a week. We both love it so much! I want them all framed! ;) Can't wait to see more from Mr Bruckner!
Simply the most relaxing funny book that you can't put down. Great to leave out for guests when they come over.
The artist really makes the stories come to life as if you were really there when the kido makes the comment about mom's angry eyebrows or when the child gives a not so flattering compliment about mom's cooking. There are plenty of insights kids have on their dad too! Perfect gift for Mother's Day or Father's Day or virtually any occasion. I have several kid quotes I want to get to Marty so he can put them in his next book, like from my son...Why do football players wear diapers? Or from my daughter...I make bad decisions when I see scissors!" I would love to see what he would draw!
Do yourself a favor and get this book - heck, get several of them and share the love. If you are a Mom, a former pre-school teacher, or simply someone who loves kids and their humor, you will adore this book. (I happen to be all three, so... it's basically my new favorite thing.) The illustrations and interpretations are clever, witty, creative, heartwarming, and just downright FUN. A staple gift for any baby shower, kid's birthday party, or teacher appreciation. I'm already waiting for the second edition. ;)
What grains of wisdom come out of small kids! I read about this book and just had to order it. I laughed all the way through it, gave it to my husband who did the same, and today passed it on to our son and daughter-in-law who have a young foster child. I feel sure they will enjoy it as well.
