To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This is one of the best cookbooks I have ever bought. Recipes are delicious, instructions are clear and the choice between "eat now" and "freeze for later" is very well laid out. Some of the recipes need a slow cooker but, after trying several of the ones that don't, I've just bought a slow cooker as they sound so good. Both my adult sons are buying this book after tasting the last 3 weeks of recipes for family Sunday meal.
I didn't realise that this cookbook was American when I bought it. Most recipes are fine, but there are a handful with ingredients which aren't widely available in the UK. There is also a recipe involving sweet potato, sugar, and mini-marshmallows, which has to be the most vile sounding side dish I have ever encountered.
There are also a number of meals, which are maybe quite tasty, but I'd hesitate to feed to my kids on a regular basis - e.g. hash brown casserole, and lots of recipes with a lot of cheese, cream, etc.
There are good tips on freezing food that can be extended to other meals, however, so I have kept it for that alone, and there are a handful of recipes I will try.
I bought this book because I am looking after an elderly person and was looking to make weekday meals quicker to prepare for them. The recipes are delicious and there are guides if you want to scale up batches. I’ve checked out many “freezer meal” books and bought some others, but in my opinion this is one of the best ones currently out there.
The only quibble I’d have is that the weight conversions from American cups to metric is completely off. I appreciate that they’ve tried, but 250ml chicken breast anyone…? :) (and no, it’s not simply a confusion of ml and grams, it’s a completely different weight).
I started to convert measurements online and write them into the book, so I have them for next time. Worth it for the outcome!
I deliberated whether I needed a cook book specifically for freezing foods but this book is brilliant! It has so many useful tips to home freezing and has some very yummy recipes!! The book really covers everything you would need to know - types of storage, defrosting, making multiple batches. 100% recommend!!
Love the lay out, great recipes and ideas/tips for batch cooking frezzer meals. Easy to follow recipes. A few ingredients are USA but easy to substitute with UK opposites or source from world foods section of supermarket or online. All serving and batch amounts worked out for you.
