Hmmm.. made the chocolate pecan pie bars on p173. I believe there’s an error in the method because the chocolate pastry base needs blind baking for sure first. I didn’t and the result was shocking and I’ve thrown away the whole batch - what a waste.
I bought this book knowing very little about Donna Hay. It has recipes and it has gorgeous photography. What it does not have is anything personal. No notes telling you where a recipe came from or how it was developed. No anecdotes or suggestions for using the recipes. No wine pairings, no family favorites. I found that, in a Christmas book, I really wanted more of that personal touch. It is also Australian -- think summer recipes that use lots of ice cream and ingredients like peaches and zucchini which most Americans would not use or even be able to buy at Christmastime.
