To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I gave four stars because I love boarding school novels. and Ellie Eaton is a talented writer. Her descriptions and dialogues were perfect, and she constructed a spot-on tone for the plot with every phrase. However, I honestly couldn't find a single character I liked except for Lena toward the end, and maybe Jürgen. The rest of the characters: Oy! Scene after scene of name-calling, bullying, smoking, terrible language, trashy behavior, lying and total lack of respect for the concept of education - not to mention nauseating descriptions of bodily functions --Enough! I was left feeling as if I'd eaten too much of something that wasn't particularly healthy. I admit that I did laugh out loud several times at the clever snark--I'm no prude. And again, I loved the writing. In closing, It was a guilty binge for me. I can’t say that I disliked the book. I will say that I wouldn't recommend it to my mother.
