I can't say just how much I love this book. As a blossoming pasta nerd I found it very insightful and interesting to read (aka NOT filled with boring stuff). The book is stacked - so many recipes I want to try. And I love the fact that it's not just pasta, there's all kinds of asian noodles in particular, as well as dumplings and pierogis. This is an absolutely gorgeous book and you will not be sorry you bought it - worth every penny. This, coupled with Mark Vietri's Mastering Pasta, is my go to pasta bible.
I bought this book and pasta machine and pasta drying rack for my grandnephew's birthday. This 14 yr old is showing an interest in cooking - an interest I want to support. The cookbook turned out to be much more than I expected. It has great photos and clear instructions for any pasta you can imagine. It includes ravioli, pot stickers, and spaetzle along with the more common types. The sauce/toppings recipes are also mouthwatering. My grandnephew was delighted with his gift.
This book was a labor of love for the author to write, and a labor of love for a home-cook like me to cook through. While it is practically encyclopedic as a pasta reference book, I particularly love the way she gives you different pasta recipes for different meals and usages. For example, you have your basic pasta dough recipe for something like fettuccine, but then different proportions if you want to make Chinese egg noodles, and yet different proportions again if you want to make lasagna noodles. Once you've mastered the basics of pasta making, it is these subtleties and refinements which bring your cooking to the next level. While this book is filled with lots of mouth-watering recipes it also has a chapter on preparation of basics (like béchamel sauce). There's also a section on the global history of pasta, as well as kitchen tools & machines, from required, to desired, to optional. When I bought this book it was about 70% higher in price than it is now. At the current price you should snatch this 800-page hardcover up and get cooking.
Worth every penny. I bought this as a gift from an a friend who had just gotten a pasta maker attachment for their kitchen aid. It has detailed descriptions and techniques for cooking every style of pasta noodle that has ever been imagined. This should be a staple in any respectable kitchen. I am getting one for myself. It is the ultimate authority on gourmet noodles
I was so surprised when I opened this book today. I had not expected so much information and so many great recipes. I cannot wait to make something for dinner tomorrow. I have been making my own pasta for a few years now, and am so glad that I purchased this gem. Only making one type of pasta is over for me. My husband is gonna love what I make him. Get this book. There is a reason that it gets 5 star ratings. It's fabulous.
This book is all over the place. It makes sense since I just looked up the author and she is a food blogger. This book comes off as if a blogger wrote it, not professional. Vet much like a whole bunch of pages that needed to be organized... But was just left as is and put in a binder.
It's supposed to be a huge book on making noodles and such, but it's mostly a recipe book.
I wanted to look up a recipe to make Ramon noodles. Nope. There is a recipe for store bought Ramon noodles. Pages on the history of Ramon noodles, but NO RECIPE FOR MAKING RAMON NOODLES! There are many items like this.
I'm a cookbook collector, and if I wasn't I'd be returning this book. I will keep it because there is some useful information.
This book would be great for a beginner cook.... But not for anyone with experience.
This is without a doubt the best cookbook I have ever purchased. I am huge foodie and an accomplished cook. I recently got into cooking Italian dishes which pretty much always includes pasta. So, I have purchased all the pasta making equipment and have started making pasta with a modicum of success. This book is going to help me get to the next level and beyond. It describes every kind of pasta imaginable and contains dozens of recipes involving pasta. If you're into making pasta from scratch, this is a must have cookbook.
