This is a great book, and the audiobook is even better as chef AJ is fun to listen to. This is the first book that has actually motivated me to eat healthier. Chef AJ clearly explains about calorie density, and what to eat to make you feel full without eating a lot of calories.
Chef AJ has come up with a collection of easy to make plant-based dishes. I like her no-nosense approach to cooking and her sound, practical advice. Her personal story of how she came to eat a plant-based diet is nothing less than inspiring.
This book got me from the introduction when chef a j writes, “my struggles with food were always lonely and fraught with guilt and anxiety. Growing up, I felt there was not a single person to whom I could talk who would truly understand what I was going through.” This is just how I felt. Just after my 67th birthday I start following a Whole Food Plant Based oil free diet. In 6 months I’d gone from a size 20 to a 10. Nearly 3 years later I’m still a size 10. I’m fit, I run, I don’t count calories, I don’t weigh my food. Chef AJ through her videos has supported me even though she doesn’t know me. This book will bring others to health, and slimness through a way of eating that also saves animals horrendous suffering, saves our beautiful planet and will save you, my fellow humans from poor health and premature death.
This program works!!!! The title is about weight loss but this program is so much more. You will lose weight and you will be able to keep it off effortlessly if you follow the program. You will prevent and reverse disease and you will have a calm, stable brain. Is finding Chef AJ the best thing that has happened to me? Definitely in the top 3. Read the book, follow it and in a matter of months you won’t recognize yourself.
Chef AJ makes so much sense, she explains what foods are more-ish and addictive and which ones are satisfying and non addictive and not to worry about how much you consume because if you follow her instructions you will lose weight. She has been though it all, she explains the trouble she has had with her weight from when she was a child. She's been anorexic, bulimic taken prescription diet pills until they were band, she weighed 180 pounds. She really opens up about her own life, and she has added plenty of recipes which aren't to American, one gripe is that there are some ingredients that I can't get in the UK, like a particular salt free seasoning and yakon gold potatoes which I've never heard of, (I no they're potatoes), but it's not a problem really as I can just Google what these things are!
The only plan that works for me. Years of being overweight and trying everything without success until I discovered Chef AJ. It’s so good to be slim and healthy without feeling deprived. I highly recommend this book!
I have been vegan since the 1990s and following AJ since the early noughties. This is definitely her best book to date and very much in line with my whole food, low fat, no salt or sugar way of living life energetically and blissfully 😀😀😀
Read, watched vids and pondered. Seems like there are some sensible tips for healthy meals...BUT... as someone who can have unhealthy eating patterns this feels very much like swapping one disordered way of eating for another. Balance is surely what we're looking for here? I worked on my mental health and this has lead to eating more healthily with less need to emotionally eat. Not an easy process I admit. But it can be done :)
I bought this book because I loved Chef AJ's previous book (Unprocessed) and I wanted some motivation and guidelines to start my weight loss journey. I really love the book, about half of is very useful information about calorie density, what we should eat, or should not eat, etc. There are also recipes that I cannot wait to try. It is VERY difficult to find recipes that are plant based, free of sugar, salt and oil, so I am very grateful for this book! The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because I was hoping for more pictures (not a single picture comes with the recipes), and the book keeps mentioning the eat the food "to the left of the red line", but we were not given a visual of that calorie chart (it is described with words only).
Edit: Oops, I just noticed that the calorie chart is actually on the back cover of the book! And in case people are wondering, I have lost about 15 pounds in 2 months by following the program! :)
