I bought this lock for my work locker. I’ve had bad experiences with combo locks but it would be far too easy to lock my keys in my locker. Generally speaking the hospital I work at is safe enough that I’ve been able to leave my locker unlocked with no issues for over seven months. However the Joint Commission is coming as soon as Covid numbers are low enough and there’s a rule that all personal belongings must be secured so I bought this lock because it seems easy enough to use and I like the idea of being able to reset the combo. However what the instructions on the packaging failed to mention was that you have to open the lock before you try to insert the reset key...I spent quite awhile attempting the push hard enough on the lock to get the thing to turn so I could set the combo. At 0445 this morning I decided to see if there were any answers on Amazon and somewhere in the product info it has a picture of the lock being unlocked. Needless to say it worked beautifully and I’m no longer pissed off at combination locks in general.
Set this lock up and tested it several times on my gate and seemed to work fine. Went back out later in the day and it would not open with the exact same combination. Not as good quality as the other similar lock Master Lock sells for indoor use. Was also surprised as how easy it was to cut the shackle off with a Dremel cut off disk.
I was so excited to find a combo lock that I could program to my own combo. Needing a ket to do is a stupid design. If you loose the key you're screwed. Stupid Masterlock.
That's not the biggest problem. I had this outside. It got rained on, not hard cause its mostly covered by a fence. We don't even get snow. In any event, the lock will now NOT lock. What am I supposed to do with $16 piece of garbage now. It stopped locking after a little rain .. What!.. What! Masterlock should fire the whole design team.
Bad idea. The problem is that the previous user will likely have set the combination to their own numbers (vs the factory setting of "0-0-0-0"). The used lock is delivered in the "locked" position, without any information about the current combination. To be able to reset the combination to what "you" want, the lock has to be in the open/unlocked position, but this is impossible because you don't know the current combination. Had to return it.
