To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I got this for my Nikon D3100 and while it works very well and does what you would want it to, I feel that Nikon should include this within their kits.
In the documentation, Nikon point out that you can use other, cheaper USB cables - but they ominously include heatsinks and have sections in the manual on this which are slightly worrying. So, you wouldn't want to accidentally leave it plugged in and start a fire..?
Although you are not forced to buy this, I feel there is a subtle pressure to use the genuine Nikon lead and this is quite pricy compared to generic leads.
However, it looks and feels a quality item, works well and transfers are very fast, so I can't complain about its functionality, but I feel a slight resentment about having to buy this as a separate item.
Because Nikon is such a brand name they charge $ 25 for a usb cable worth maybe $ 2 - I assume their rationale is the purchaser is buying a ' legitimate' Nikon product when it is clear all their products are manufactured in China - unfortunately the risk of possible camera damage due to a knock-off is greater than the (approx.) 10 times price differential - cable works fine but I suspect any cable would - Nikon does include ferrite magnets to ensure any usb cable will work but, again, is it worth the risk to possibly, however unlikely, destroy an expensive camera - my choice was to buy a cable marked ' Nikon'
