To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Seems well made, from reasonably decent quality plastics (ABS?), if somewhat medical-looking in those resplendent shades of grey and off-white. It has just the one OFF switch, for all plugs at once, BUT BE AWARE: the button's toggle action is actually very soft, I'd even say TOO soft! It's so soft that if you have cats, dogs or maybe even heavy guinea-pigs, they could easily flip it if they stepped on it! I personally chose to place some strong rubber bands around it to keep it on (those red bands the postie sometimes has around your mail work perfectly, as they're the right size and strength) yet still ready to be turned off at a moment's notice if necessary (but with the bands in place, the button will revert to ON straightaway if no force is exerted to keep in off). I paid £7.50 for my 4-way with 1m cable, which is a fair price-point for this as far as I'm concerned - it's currently (Feb 2014) being offered by Amazon at a little over £8.
Solid 4 way adapter if a little awkward to actually place. The strip itself is a tad unwieldy due to the width and curve so in the space I'm using it (a small gangway underneath a desk) it sits at a 45 degree angle and is a little awkward to access.
In terms of its use I would recommend it for smaller, lesser-value items that you need surge protection for. It does have an on/off switch which affects the entire unit and not individual sockets which is probably of little use for a home (unless the mains switch is inaccessible) but a nice feature nonetheless.
The product receives four stars for doing its (albeit quite straightforward) job, but does lose one for the clunky design.
If you need a power strip for more valuable items then please look about £10-20 dearer as the level of protection (and in many cases damage insurance via the provider) is much greater. For simple items though this will suit you down to the 'ground'.
I was looking for a good solid basic power strip, and this is it!
Quite rugged construction, and what looks like a pair of mounting holes in the back of the moulding (not tried them but that is what they appear to be).
Had a sheet of instructions provided which appear to have no relevance to this product, and that issue could stand some review from the maker.
Product is fine, maybe a little bulky, but that was not an issue for me and the place I had marked out for it to live. I prefer it a little hefty rather than flimsy for certain, there far are too many flimsy ones out there already.
I live in an area where lightening strikes are common and I also suspect that we get power surges on the electricity board distribution line. An ex electricity board engineer said he had recorded 280volt surges. I have no idea what this means for my electronic apparatus but it doesn't sound good! I have everything electronic in my house protected by one means or another and this extension is very functional and comes with a guarantee.
- I realized after I got the pack that this is the "Essential" version which is only guaranteed to protect up to some limit. However it turns out that all the 1m/4plug models are "Essential", so if I wanted maximum protection, I would have had to buy the one with 4m cable and 8 plugs, which I don't have place for.
+ Well designed + Solid + Good brand, I hope it will be worth its price one day.
HI i got the Belkin surgemaster, as i have had one for the past 4yrs. The area i live in has in the past had power problems,so i consider this a must have item, the cable is the right length as the power sockets are in easy reach. If the cable is used in powersurge and equipment is damaged, then you can make a claim, i would say that is a win/win situation, as the cost of replacement items would be high.
See previous buyer comment relating to this "family" of surge protection products. Not only are there three levels of Product but mine had different Joule ratings on the front and back of the box! If you want it for your computer equipment it would appear that you are best having the "middle" rated product.
A well made product.I was disappointed that it was not made clearer that this was only basic protection for such appliances as dishwashers and washing machines. However I have used it with my TV and DVD player and hope it does the job.
We had had several power surges due to a faulty transformer on teh electricity pole. This is now resolved. I bought this to supplement two simmilar products and several wall socket devices for peace of mind. This item is a littel bulky but they all seem to work.
