A generous set. Not only the music is very accessible, compared to a lot of other 20th Century classical music, the performances are very good. It's also nice to have all of the concertos in one set. My favourite is the cello concerto No.1 ... Brilliant!
This gem combines all of Shostakovich's concertos in a low-priced 3CD set. The concertos span his entire career, from the First Piano Concerto, written in his mid-20s, to the second Violin Concerto, written in the last decade of his short life. These digital recordings date from 1984-1992. These works are great! I am particularly enamoured with the violin and cello disks, but the piano disk is good, too. The trilingual album notes are spare, but a brief introduction and discussion of each piece is made. My only complaint is that the third (piano) disk is about 20 minutes shorter than the other two and that no suitable works could be found to fill out the disk. That is a small defect, however, considering the 170 minutes of fine music for so low a price. This album is both a great introduction to Shostakovich and a great complement to an existing collection.
l'oeuvre de chosta est tellement immense que l'on a du mal a tout entendre... cette intégrale thématique permet de restituer certaines oeuvres entendues de ci et de la de manière fragmentaire. en conclusion : a posséder et écouter pour les amateurs
I bought this with a bit of a 'well, let's see how it goes' attitude and have been very pleasantly suprised. Good performances covering well the hugh variety that is the Shostakovich repetoire. Recommend!
