I originally purchased a whole set of these, with three different sized bulb changers and a pole from our local home improvement store. However, I really only needed this one size of bulb changer, so I returned that set and purchased this one. Our home improvement store did not have the individual sizes, just the set.
The bulb changer threaded onto our telescoping pole without a problem. A twist of the screw on the changer keeps it from coming unthreaded as you try to screw/unscrew a bulb. I was able to remove the mini compact fluorescent bulbs from our ceiling fan, which is mounted up on a 20 ft ceiling, without out a problem. Installing the LED replacements was a bit harder. The bulbs have candelabra bases and holding the pole steady and getting the bulb in the socket, from that far below the fan's light fixture, was a challenge. A couple of times, I did need to readjust the positioning of the bulb in the holder, as it doesn't hold the bulbs strongly.
With that chore done, I probably won't need this again for many years, assuming the LED bulbs live up to claims of long life.
The device grabs the bulb firmly. If you don’t tighten the thumb screw enough it unscrews leaving the device hanging on the bulb. According to one of the reviews, tightening it too much could cause it to crack. I fortunately got the bulb out but getting the new bulb in was a bear. I finally threw up my hands and my wife did it first time. One of the other reviews mentioned the bulb breaking. The answer is a potato. You put the potato in the bulb changer and unscrew. Works like a charm.
It's made for incandescent bulbs, but just for the regular house hold size, up to 70W. The spring loaded opening is too tight to slip over anything wider. I inserted a large prescription bottle cap to pre-widen it and it worked on a 18W CFL flawlessly. The flimsy set screw is a joke. I removed it and secured the device with tape to the broom handle threads instead. One star less for the cheap design of the handle receptacle. Product made in China.
Well made but not that great for removeing LED bulbs from tight sockets, probably due to the slick cover on them. It does work great for installing the into the same sockets however and got them tight enough they won't fall out. Seems it is really made for incandescent bulbs. I may have to try gluing pieces on jar lid remover rubber on to in.
