To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
We needed something to lock up pharmaceuticals at home, and picked this one more or less at random.
It's serviceable, but has three shortcomings we've identified so far:
It's smaller on the inside than it looks. In particular, there's a goodly chunk of space directly behind the door when it's closed that cannot be used because it collides with the battery pack.
Speaking of battery pack, the fact that it's on the inside means that if the batteries die you can only gain entry with the emergency key. Other electronic safes allow the batteries to be changed without opening the safe (and, no, that doesn't make the safe less secure).
The last shortcoming is that sometimes if you enter the combination too slowly it will just start ignoring button presses. It's almost as if the batteries die in mid-stride or something. This is not the same thing as the lock-out period after getting the combination wrong too many times in a row.
How much security do you really need? I keep firearms in my house and my biggest issue is to make sure that my grandchildren can't to then. My grandchildren don't know where they are and couldn't get to them even if they didn't know where they are, which they don't.
This is not a true security safe. It's not waterproof or fireproof. If a bad guy wants to get into the safe he can very easily do it. If security is what you're looking for then this is not the safe for you. If you are looking for something to just keep guns out of the way of children or people in your home who should not have access to your firearms. This safe will do the job.
This is a good safe to keep out the people whom you don't want going into it. It acts as a deterrent and I used it to store important files and confidential documents. However, when I lost the keys (yes, I lost both and had no batteries in it) I used a screw driver and hammer and busted the lock in about 10 seconds. Now it doesn't lock and I bought a better quality larger safe.
Received the safe today. Took all of five minutes to get batteries installed and new combination set. Key works easily to open safe if batteries die. Keypad is very easy to use, and LEDs light as promised. The door hinge makes noises like the hinge has beach sand in it. Other than that, we think it is a good buy for us. We can get all of our paperwork in, and a few pieces of jewelry. We couldn't find anything else in our price range, but it's okay. Not a fire safe, but OK for the money.
The safe is decent for the price. My only issue with it is the battery compartment. The covers keeps falling off when the door is closed, so I must use the key. Sometimes, the batteries shift within the compartment, so the cover is still on, but the number pad doesn't work.
After reviewing internet videos showing how easy it is for a toddler to break in to this, and other electronic lock, units, I realized that secure safety is NOT one of this model's strong points. I was using it for pistol storage, but now use a Ft Knox safe for pistols and use this unit for ammo storage. As such, it is fine.
