Do NOT purchase any Diner, Drive-ins and Dives series books. I bought 3 and was sorely dissapointed with all of them. They are more "his story" and the stories of the people involved in all the restaurants, than actual recipes. Even though there ARE lots of recipes, but NONE of them have any photos. You cannot make exotic food if you dont know what it LOOKS LIKE!?!! The printing feels they used an ancient mimeograph machine to run the copies. While the TV programme is worth it - these books are certainly a waste of space. Sad. NOT RECOMMENDED.
I got this book after watching the TV show and wanting some of the recipes, this book covers 60 diners, drive ins and dives, so more than 60 recipes set in to breakfasts(7), burghers, sandwiches & dogs(13), starters(10), dinner mains(22), sides(12) and sweets(4). All recipes use American measures but are make able with a bit of organization.
Admittedly the book captures the enthusiasm of the show, but the production values are very poor. Must be because I'm a limey used to Nigella/Jamie style cook books with wonderful art direction and food porn shots. Feels like a scrap book. Not a brand extension from a show full of vibrancy that shows how the US celebrates food. A let down.
Index not great, hard to find the recipes you want. Thought there would have been some more recipes and some of the better ones you see on TV are not in it...maybe for copywrite etc but that was why I bought the book for the best recipes......
