Love the capabilities of this Boombox but didn't have a chance to enjoy them. The right front speaker does not work and I have only had it for about eight months now. Supposedly this boombox comes with a one year warranty, but Panasonic no longer sells this item so they will not cover it or pay for any repairs. Very disappointed.
Most of my appliances are and have been Panasonic, which I've always considered *the* quality brand. But this unit has disappointed mightily. First the antenna broke off. Then the radio refused to play. Now CD playback is becoming wonky -- all over a period of a few years. My old Sony boombox lasted more than ten years, had better sound quality, and was more solidly put together. I realize boomboxes are becoming obsolete, and that qualify has declined, but this unit -- not cheap -- has been a waste of money, and needs to be replaced: with a Sony.
I already have a radio just like this and really like it. I ordered this one for a family member who really wasn't interested in it. (Younger generation does not listen to radio.) I decided to keep this radio for my back porch, but sadly, I cannot get it set to one station. (Really only listen to one station.). Another thing that seems strange to me is that the secondary language in the manual is some kind of Arabic. Most manuals have English and Spanish or French. Does that have anything to how this radio was manufactured or programmed by the manufacturer? Every morning, I have to stand and punch the button until I get to my station. Really aggravating. I read the manual. I have tried. No success. GRRR!
It's compact and very portable. The sound is good and loud enough for the job site which is why I bought it,because I'm so sick of the radio and wanted USB flash drives loaded with music I want to hear. You would think in this computer techno world we are in these manufacturers would figure out a good random play. This thing gets stuck on a hand full of songs and keeps repeating them over and over.I have to keep making new playlists on an 8 gb thumb drive to mix it up.Like I said this is why I hate radio they do the same thing, play a hand full of songs over and over.Anybody know of a boom box that has a good random setting with USB?Like it knows after you heard so&so song you don't need to hear it again for like 200 more songs later?Let me know I will be the first in line.It never plays some stuff in random, but you can play it if you search it out, which while working is not an option.Tape deck is useful to store your flash drive.Slow navigation for finding folders on the flash drive.Probably good with an mp3 player, never tried that and just more stuff to drag around with you.If it had a good random setting I would give it 5 stars. *Update!* Changed to 5 stars from 3.There is away around the random play by making the mp3's random on the flash drive.First I pulled all song files from the folders to one folder, like over 1000 mp3's,got a file renamer program for free off the net,put a number in front of the title on the random setting, then used a program called MP3Gain(free) to make all the volumes consistent,I set it at 96 db and now true random with no repeats of well over 1000 songs and no more adjusting the volume! Thanks Gen Jackson "Stonewall" your review sent me in the right direction. !!UPDATE!! July 30 2016 Speakers blown after two years. I have cheap radios that are super old that did better than this. Sound is not fantastic either. A self contained unit should never blow it's own speakers. Now it's useless.
Checked it out as soon as it arrived. Seemed wonderful! Sounded great and everything worked. Two months later the display panel only indicated a few random lines, which renders the whole thing useless. Through Amazon I hooked up with a troubleshooter. I wrote "the display panel only indicates a few random lines". Their reply was "Can you be more specific"?
My original boombox lasted 13 years. 13 years!!! I spent $80 on it. This was around $117. This boombox stopped working in 2 years. Bought it in 2016. HUGE disappointment. Maybe everything is made to break or stop working within 2 years now. Quality of all products is way down. Buyer beware.
I like the USB function which is the only thing I'm using now due to the defective CD function. I never had the chance to return it since the USPS is not that accessible from where I live. I have an APO address in NE Asia.
Item arrived with scotch tape over the cassette door. After I removed tape the door opened and it will not stay closed, thus explaining the tape. I doubt this is a design feature. Non of the tape functions work either. Very dissatisfied as this was a Christmas present to my parents so they could play old cassette tapes and CDs.
