Bought as a present for my 81 year old husband for him to play his audio books whilst he is on dialysis. Virtually impossible for him to open it even my grandson took ages to work it out before he eventually managed to do it with great difficulty. You have to hold it in the palm of your hand, not touching the top and flick the awkward minute switch across without it sliding off your hand to open it. What a waste of money I wish I could return it but unfortunately I have thrown away the packaging. All the switches are minute, my grandson needed a magnifying glass to find them. DO NOT BUY. A waste of money, spend a bit more a get something you can use. Elvira English
Hard to believe that this device was once considered cutting edge tech, but there are times when all you want to do is listen to your favourite CD rather than the thousand of tracks from a streaming service. This product carries a reliable name brand with a history of good craftsmanship. This was purchased as a gift and I have been informed that it works very well and does what it is meant to, The only downside is there is no internal battery that needed charging, you have to physical replace with AA batteries approx. after 10 hours of listening, it is possible to use a 6v dc adapter but have not got one yet.
I have loads of old CDs and so I thought I'd get an old fashioned portable player to give them new life. The first player I received (different, good name make) didn't work, which made me doubt the project. Anyway, I eventually thought I'd give another reliable name a chance, but this time with less cash outlay. The sound quality, through some good Bose headphones, is very pleasing, with plenty of detail and range and so I thoroughly recommend this player, which does more than I expected it to do for the money (£29.99 new). The item is a bit "plasticy", but that's hardly a surprise. I haven't tried the supplied headphones, but don't suppose they are of high quality, 'though I may be being unfair on them.
I just thought I'd add, having used this for a little while, that the volume for me is fine and that the discs do not skip when walking or gardening.
I bought this for my holidays so that I can listen to my Agatha Christie C.D.'s Once my husband had put the batteries in (I couldn't work out where they were to go, should have read the instructions). The machine is straightforward to use you can stop when you want to and as long as you remember the number you've got up to can then continue with your c.d. I found the sound quality good enough and am very pleased with it.
I still listen to c.d's so I like the fact that this is available - HOWEVER, it does often skip and stop playing when I am walking and sometimes when I'm just sitting so it can be a bother. Also, I've had two others spoil altogether so they're not that well made - I treat it with enough respect so I don't think it's my fault.
The first thing I noticed about the player was the sound level was very poor even for people with good hearing secondly the control buttons were far to small and set to close together, this makes the player very difficult for anyone with limited site or poor dexterity. Finally on pressing the stop button the player returns to the beginning of the item you were listening ,this is very frustrating if you are in the middle of a book.I would recommend this item for the young only, anyone with poor sight or limited dexterity wound find it very frustrating as my sister in law does. She is 83 and depends on talking books for her enjoyment. If you produce a more suitable player .i would love to hear about it. Major P Dwyer (Retd)
A bit disappointed with this product as even the slightest touch causes the cd to stop playing and start from the beginning again. It's extremely frustrating but once playing its ok as long it's not moved. This kind of defeats the object of a "portable" CD player though :/ Luckily I just bought this to use around the house (even then it still skips) but considering it's a Phillips product I thought the jog proof specification would go without saying. Never mind! Will be buying a cheaper option next time as I thought buying an expensive model would confidently fulfill my needs but this product proves that that is not always the case.
It's great i got it same day i ordered, unit works perfectly fine absolutely no issues. just make sure to have you own or order a pair of headphones to go with it. the ones that come with it are rubbish, but this is to be expected.
