It's hard to fairly review this book. My wife is a big fan of Chef AJ, and she was looking for an SOS (salt, oil, sugar) free cookbook. I got her this one thinking it was exactly what she was looking for, however this book was written in 2011, apparently prior to Chef AJ's adoption of a nut-free and lower-calorie style of cooking. The main section of recipes are desserts. Most of the recipes are either based on nuts, or dates. I'm sure they are fantastic, however they are not what my wife was looking for. Will probably return it as a result. Also recipe books should always include photos, which this one does not.
I purchased Unprocessed shortly after joining UWL because chef AJ mentions it often. I mistakenly thought it would be beneficial, but the recipes contained within are not UWL compliant. Also, unlike Dr. McDougall's books, the Kindle version does not include a link to a printable version of the recipes. That being said, I am looking forward to her new book due out next month. Fingers crossed...
A great primer for someone starting out on the vegan path and very convincing sections on eliminating processed foods. Good techniques for starting small. Author is very understanding of the obstacles to making this shift. Great personal story. Some yummy recipes too, which is why I bought it. Major thing lacking (for me) is pictures of the recipes.
