I purchased this to work on my old and trusted Nikon P520 bridge camera - for which it is compatible. I have an iPhone X running iOS 13.4.1 To be honest, I did feel that this was an expensive way to add Wi-Fi capability to my camera, but the prospect of being able to transfer pictures to my smart phone without having to use a computer and then edit and upload to social media was a big enough pull (for me). First, let's just say that the adapter works... kind of, but not anywhere near good enough for the £50+ price tag and nowhere near good enough for me to actually use it... AT ALL! The problems I experienced may be down to my phone, but I did also try it with an old iPhone SE running a slightly older iOS version, but still encountered the same issues. So, here are the problems: - 1. Wi-Fi drop out - the Wi-Fi was very flaky, meaning I was never sure if the phone was still connected or not, leading to me having to wait a long time before giving up and rechecking the connection in the settings on the phone. 2. Wi-Fi range poor - my experience was if you moved more than about 6 feet away, the Wi-Fi signal was unpredictable 3. Command speed from app to camera - you can zoom in and out using the app by clicking on the "W" or "T" buttons, but there is about a 2 second reaction time between pressing/touching the button and the camera actually doing anything. You cannot touch and hold the button as that only counts as one zoom increment, so it was taking me upwards for 30 seconds to zoom in on anything which is useless. Also, the reaction time between clicking to take a picture and the camera actually doing so, was about the same... 2 seconds or so. 4. Viewing images from camera to phone - way to slow to show the thumbnail images. My camera has upwards of 1000 images on the memory card and scrolling through was more than painfully slow. At this point I just wanted to rip the device out of my camera and give up completely. 5. Downloading to iPhone - slow, slow, slow.
My summary - maybe the app is to blame, maybe Nikon need to update it, maybe it works better on Android - too may maybe's. For me this was just not fit for purpose. Yes, you can connect your phone to your camera, but it's so slow you wouldn't want to. And the finally nail in the coffin for me, was the app did not give you the ability to shoot video! You can only take pictures!! And when the Wi-Fi device is plugged in, you can't use any of the camera’s buttons or the screen on the back of the camera, you have to use the phone!!!
Extremely unimpressed with this product overall which is a real shame.
I've been using it for a little over a month now (outside refund timescale I believe) and have had a myriad of error messages and very frequent Wi-Fi connection drops.
I would honestly say that about 50-75% of all my attempts to download end up with a camera disconnected message. I have tried a number of fixes and suggestions made by the community including airplane mode however the problem remains.
It's extremely frustrating when you have over 200 photos on your camera because the App has to download all of the thumbnails before you can do anything. So if you have a large amount of photos to process a disconnect is almost a certainty (I have 328 photos on my camera and the initial download simply will not finish without a drop, making the device literally useless)
I would honestly suggest just getting an OTG cable which is what I will be going back to.
Clearly the product has a good overall rating so perhaps I have a faulty unit.
This is terrible - drops signal repeatedly and only connects initially maybe 10% of the time. I wish I had read reviews before I purchased as this is a total waste of £40. Such a shame as when it DOES work, it's exactly what I need but end up wasting hours trying to get it to connect. I give up in the end and transfer the good old fashioned way. Very disappointing, please don't waste your time or money.
Like other reviewers I should have trusted the negative reviews! Does not stay connected, and when it does the range is abysmal. But that doesn't matter as it doesn't stay connected for more than 1 minute. I can't beleiveva company like Nikon can produce such a load of unreliable rubbish. PS I have a new Samsung S10 so that Durley cannot be the problem.
Since I have had this product I have had nothing but trouble with it. It either takes an extremely long time to transfer the photos or it doesn’t work at all. It’s quite infuriating the amount of times it tells you it’s disconnected from the camera. It hasn’t helped me transfer my photos to my phone. I feel it’s waster my money and would really like a product that would work and help me transfer the photos to my phone with no issues. It’s so glitchy I haven’t even tried to use it as a remote for my phone.
The adaptor is absolute rubbish. Useless and unusable. Constantly disconnected especially is you shoot in HQ or if you take more than 3 images. It disconnects straight after. On top of that, it takes 2 minutes to download a single image to my device with this. Cannot believe the price tag on this useless thing. Based one everone else's experience, this is indeed a poor product
Absolutely rubbish !! So disappointed with this. Will not download regardless of how patient I am. So frustrating and a complete waste of money. Suggested App is very poor but can’t find any other to try.
Bought this product as I was travelled the Route 66 and would be good to transfer my pictures onto my I my I cloud. Doesn't always work, disconnects half way through(very frustrating) Not a great product.
