I recieved this book right in time for vacation last week (April 2014). So, I brought it on the plane to read and enjoy as we had a full day of flying. First off, I have both WICKED GOOD BBQ, AND WICKED GOOD BURGERS, both 5 stars as well. And GRILL TO PERFECTION gets a 5 star from me due to many factors of this book. I love the fact that there is a great begining to this book on HOW to grill. From different types of grills, to charcoal and tools are perfect to lending a perfect grilling experience. Then, these guys add in things even I DIDN'T know. More than a few methods of grilling. Yes, direct and indirect but throw in 'ZONES' with low, med. and hot fires! And here's where it gets even better! The recipes are almost all geared toward the cooking methods that are listed in the contents in their 5 chapters! YOU just can't fail if you follow the methods, tips and just plain great recipes! Grilled onion gravy was AMAZING this past Easter Sunday, along with the Grilled Swordfish with warm bacon lobster salad. OMG, the lip smacking recipes all sound good now, we just have to get some even better weather to try more recipes out! KUDO'S to Andy Husbands, Chris Hart, Andrea Pyeson on yet another classic! BTW, the photography from Ken Goodman is gorgeous and mouth watering every turn of the page! Enjoy ya'll , and GET OUT AND GRILL!
Andy Husbands, and the rest of the IQUE team, write fantastic cookbooks that dive into not only the how, but the what and why things should be done. Check out all the other publications they have to offer as well!
This book not only taught me to be a better grill cook, it taught me to be a better American, to be more philanthropic and helping with my outside shot in pick up basketball. Am I slightly biased because Chef Andy Husbands saved me from a burning car accident on a snowy eve all those years ago? Perhaps. During the time I have owned this book neither me nor my wife have fallen ill. Is this coincidence? Tough to say, the world is a mysterious place.
With all this being said if you pass up this book in favor of another grilling book you are not only turning your nose up to my close personal friend Andy, you're turning your back on America and science as we know it. Don't be that person. Buy this book.
First let me say Wicked good bbq and burger books are excellent 5 star books highly recommend, but this book I hate.Plane and simple not my type of recipes:Tofu Tacos. Grilled King Salmon with english peas and mint. Grilled Spam Loco Moco with curried slaw. Lamb T bones and mint Pistou. Smokey spicy lamb chorizo.Seared greens with grilled chicken livers and blue cheese. The book is filled with these types of recipes if the recipes I wrote down appeal to you, I bet you will love this book it is just not my type of recipes. Like I said the first two books they have written are excellent. My favorite grill book is Webers way to grill by Jamie Purviance. If you are looking for a bbq book then Myron Mixons books are excellent. Slow fire by Dr bbq Lampe and I love Smoking in the boys room by Melissa Cockston. I am forgetting several other bbq books. I do understand that grilling and bbq is different that's why I recommended the webers book for grilling. Bottom line not my type of recipes but you might like them.
