To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I received this today. I was fairly certain it was small based on Amazons description and reviewers comments. The first thing I did was to try to get a good idea of what the inside dimensions might actually be. Only due to the mechanism on the inside of the door. This does stick out a bit. As best I could tell, the dimensions (when door is closed) are 12"w x 5"d x 7"h. Granted, not much space, but then again it's not a big safe either. The door opening (a swag) appeared to be approx. 5.375" x 7.75" so items will have to be angled in if it's longer than the opening size. As in Amazons description, mounting is an option. Depending on your actions, the hardware supplied might need to be augmented. The two keys with this safe had 4 numbers inscribed on the round shaft. The last 3 of these were inscribed on the hole the key fits into. I do not know if this is standard information on all keys or if the locks are individually coded. I have plans on another purchase of this safe in the near future and can update this review at that time. It's possible another reviewer knows and can enlighten me in regards to this. Setting the codes was easy for the most part. The Reset button has a plastic cap on it to avoid pushing it by accident after the codes have been set. Can tell you, when keying in the combination, it will be on the noticeable side. I can not make a statement on battery life yet. I reckon it will depend on the keypad usage. All in all, the safe seems to well built and solid. I would definitely recommend this item.
I purchased this safe after buying a $17 safe off of Amazon and being completely dissatisfied, it was a piece of crap. I guess that's what you get for $17 so I decided to step it up a little and this gets the job done for a small at home safe.
If someone really wanted to get in it I'm sure they could and, but it deters people from messing with your stuff, it's pretty sturdy and decently heavy as well.
1-YEAR UPDATE: 10 days from the year, safe is still in good standing. One thing I would recommend though,
**DON'T USE THEIR BATTERIES, USE HIGH QUALITY BATTERIES THAT WILL LAST A LONG TIME.**
The batteries they gave me died in the first few months, and, while initially I had no issue with the keypad and my PIN, after I had to change the batteries, my PIN didn't work. I also had issues setting a new PIN.. so I had to reluctantly use the factory PIN.
Then, for some reason my old PIN started working again.
Hopefully this doesn't happen again, or to you, but do yourself a favor and use high quality batteries the first time around.
I've had it for 2 weeks or so and the setup was super easy, the keypad works great I put the keys somewhere where they can be found and have just been using that to get in, and I have to use it everyday as I keep medication in there.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars was the handle does seem a little flimsy, maybe not flimsy but just a bit cheaply-made I guess is more of what I'm getting at. I don't feel like it's going to break off, but just when you turn it, it doesn't feel as premium as it should when the rest of the safe is built of better material.
Good products, don't spend less than 40 bucks on a safe, if you really want that piece of mind at least step it up to that, those cheap safes for $15 or $20 are exactly that, don't waste your time I sent mine back 10 minutes after I got it.
This isn't meant to safeguard your children's inheritance & protect your every valuable, but it serves the purpose for basic protection of a few small items. It gives me peace of mind by safe keeping things like medication, so it's not lost or misplaced & jewelry, cd's & small electronic items that might walk away in a group of teens! It's also an excellent means of concealing gift cards & other small birthday, mother's day, father's day or Christmas day presents from curious family members! It opens smoothly. The alarm does go off if the wrong combination is entered 3 times. There's an ample amount of space and properly hidden & secured, it could adequately protect any number of items. It's not going to stop any determined thief but it could play a fine role as a diversionary safe for your primary security needs.
It is what it is, not nearly as sturdy as a stack on! But if you're like me, old, poor, fixed income and dog food is getting expensive well this is what I could afford. It will keep children out but not a thief if they're determined. I bolted it to a shelf in my armoire situated within reach near my couch. Hopefully I can get to it before the bad guys get to me! I gave it 4 stars because it came quickly and early a big plus for me, 3 stars would be appropriate. Maybe one day my ship will come in and I could afford a manly man gun safe! Until then this will have to do, I would recommend it. I thought it came with a shelf? It didn't, it would be 5 stars then. FYI; this my 3rd safe, the first 2 the electronic combination stopped working after a year or 2 so I'm using the key. I't too much bother resetting combination with each battery change. The first 2 I owned went through batteries quickly, batteries are expensive!
It serves as it should. Strong enough, perfect size to store some valuables, guns. Very easy to use. But, the problem is its sound. Whenever you open and close, everyone hear the beep sound. So, do not ever plan to use it for emergency at night to take a firearm out. Everyone will hear it.
I primarily use this safe to keep my handgun in. It is a VERY light safe, so if this isn't bolted, a burglar could easily pick this up and just haul it away in one arm. It also seems like it would be very easy to break into, by even a novice locksmith.
It's a good sized safe for the price, and has a nice sliding battery cover to prevent the batteries from flying out on a hard shut (Some other safe use plastic clip covers that can let the internal batteries fall out while locked). The mounting bolts are large and appear to be more than adequate. The only downside is the beeper/buzzer volume. Even after filling the buzzer with hot glue, it is still louder than other safes I've encountered, and could be a problem in more incognito situations.
I bolted this time to the wall and a shelf. That was the easy part. Programming instructions were a little wonky but I finally got it right. Its not fire safe, but I use flame resistant bags. I keep the originals in a safe deposit box at the bank but copies of important documents in this. Its a little small for my Jewel of the Nile but otherwise its just fine.
He enjoys working for cash, and saving it! When I found out he was packing over $100 in his wallet and taking it to school, this safe was a no-brainer. Obviously, I wouldn't store a large sum of money or firearm in it, but it serves it's purpose.
