4.0 out of 5 starsMake sure that your metal plate comes into physical contact with the magnet because the 1/8th inch we had wasn't enough to engage the magnet so we added a few washers behind it and now it works great. I ran out and bought 8-wire thermostat wire ...
I added this to our office door to since we have multiple suites within and the exterior door occasionally would be left open. It is full of features for an inexpensive device. Make sure that your metal plate comes into physical contact with the magnet because the 1/8th inch we had wasn't enough to engage the magnet so we added a few washers behind it and now it works great.
I ran out and bought 8-wire thermostat wire which has multiple colors inside the sheathing we cut off. I supposed we could have used CAT-5 cabling to do the same.
We're still trying to figure out how to wire the doorbell as the instructions were not at all clear on how to or what kind of door bell to attach.
Came packaged well with individual components in their own boxes and with packing foam. Unpacked and examined each component and all looked brand new. Tested the setup on a bench to verify that I could figure out how to wire it up. The directions are sparse but sufficient to figure out the wiring. Successfully tested configuring the tags into the access controller and verified that I could use the tags or unlock code to release the mag lock. So far so good. Will report again after it's installed and had some burn-in time. Knocking one star off because the directions could be better.
I had to make my own brackets to install this on an inswing door. Didn't know I'd need to pay so much for brackets when this was so cheap. No rubber gasket for Plate either, I used plexiglass between it and bracket, and multiple O-rings on bolt. Finally locked after I got it right, as its not in instructions. No bell/buzzer built in as see in videos, no how to correctly on it. run 12V to a bell lead, other bell lead to bell/buzzer, then buzzer/bell back to ground. have fun figuring out a secondary push button exit switch. Wiring instructions are different for lock and controller and power source, a different from seller to seller on same item. Buy a secure coverv for power supply as all wiring is external on its edge with terminals. Easy to be tampered with if you don't enclose it. Keypad isn't waterproof, found out after fact. So go ahead and purchase the cover. Once you figure it all out it works damn well. Only have one code though which is falsey claimed as more. wish there was a Log also, just watch camera if you have issues I suppose. All in all, would definitely buy another agsin or for my house. Just a better controller that's metal and waterproof.
Was wondering why there were negative reviews on this product. Once it is installed, it works like a charm. It does requires much work to get it installed properly and the spacing between the steel bar and the magnetic coil is very tight or the bar will not get attached. After several adjustments, got it to work as well as the control keypad and fob access.
Modified a waterproof 2 gangs electrical outlets to hold the keypad and it works good having the keypad external to the door. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is I couldn't get the release button to increase the opening time though, it is defaulted to 3 seconds and it is a pain to have such a short time intervals without having the ability to increase the opening duration.
This is quite a deal, and works almost as advertised. As someone else mentioned, the steel plate has to practially touch the electromagent before it will lock. Make sure your application allows you to use those tight tolerances and you will be happy. I wish the keypad was not as flimsy as it is, but can't really complain for the price point.
works great. these other people giving bad reviews prob didn't hook the wires up right. only bad I would say the keypad is cheap plastic so if I ever have to pop the cover off I'm sure it will crack and break. for $50 can't complain though.
Decent little system for the price. Beware of watching videos with similar systems. Read instructions carefully. This was different than anything else I saw online but once I figured it out was fairly easy to set up. Set up on a table top and test first unless you know what you're doing.
