I used this device to switch a mouse and keyboard connected to a dock between my work laptop and personal laptop without doing any unplugging.
The device is super simple to use, the cords are long enough (maybe 90cm) and it is plug and play, so minimal setup required.
The one issue I had is that after switching a few times, my laptops believed that my keyboard was defective and disabled it, the only way to enable it again was to pull out the usb and put it back in. This happened maybe after 4 switches. I was using Windows 10 and the error would occur on both my work laptop (dell) and my personal one (asus, ROG).
At first I thought the switches were a bit faulty not responding felt frustrating trying to switch, but its the delay of 3-5 seconds while it enumerates the usb devices again, so it wont switch again until they have enumerated fully. Buttons respond fine one they have enumerated. Have my keyboard, wireless trackball and a 3d connexion mouse connected to a anker 7 port usb 3 powered hub which is then connected to the switch, one output goes to my desktop pc and the other one to another anker 7 port usb 3 powered hub which goes to my laptop, works fine. Like most usb switches/hubs it's light and you need to use double sided tape or something to hold it down flat to the desk. Personally I would have preferred it a bit wider and all usb ports on the back so I could have it further forward on the desk rather than as it is which is the input port at the front. The unit itself is made out of hard shiny plastic so not flimsy and the port connections are okay.
This works well. Can take a good 5 seconds or so before the switch happens, though may be down to what I have connected connected. The blue LED light is very bright!
One thing I wish I knew before purchasing, is (unlike analog equivalents) you will need power to both devices to allow switching. I'm using this to switch a mouse between two computers and when I first set it up one of the computers was off. The switch didn't work because of this - I had to turn on bother computers before I could make a selection. Thankfully it remembers this and I don't have to have them both on all the time, but occasionally I have to re-do this which isn't ideal.
On my desk I have 2 laptops and they share my keyboard and mouse plus extra monitors. Since I don't want each time unplug the cable etc.I have bought this USB Switch and I just press the 1 or 2 in order to switch the input to the other machine.
The price is a little high though, you can buy another brand and it will works anyway with the Plugable Docking Station.
The casing is quite basic, probably to help keep the costs down, however, it does the job it was intended.
I have a couple of minor criticisms, the first is that it can take a couple of presses to get the switch to move device, and the second is that because the device is light, the cables that come with the device can place more weight on the back of the device and lift the front up.
If this could be balanced a bit, it would reduce the amount of blue tac being used to keep it on my desk.
Does exactly what it should do, which is switch between USB cables. Perfect for my use of switching keyboard and mouse between two PC's. I would give it 5 stars but the LEDs are insanely bright. Tinted buttons instead of (vey lightly) frosted would make this spot on.
Product arrived promptly and was well up to specification. It worked first time no problem. If I have any complaint it was the fact there were no connecting cables included. Granted you should have one already with your printer(s), but there is still the need for an extra cable from the unit to the printer - which fortunately I had.
