How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Start

Librarian Lucy Richardson had a good life, or so she thought. A job working with rare books at the Harvard Library, a wedding in her future, and her family nearby. Look a little closer though and things aren't as clear cut. She’s had the same job for a decade,  doesn’t actually want to be engaged to her partner and has no enjoyment of her family’s high society social life.

Heading to her aunt and uncle's home in the Outer Banks, where she made many happy childhood memories, Lucy is offered the job of her dreams. The Bodie Island Lighthouse Library has always been a special place for Lucy and now she gets to work there! The library has recently offered to exhibit a complete set of Jane Austen first editions which excites her no end. When the head of the library board is found dead at the introduction ceremony Lucy is horrified but after one of the rare first editions goes missing a short while later she knows has to do something to save her ideal job and even the very library itself.

This is the first in the successful Lighthouse Library mystery series which I have only discovered recently.  With everything seen from Lucy’s point of view the storyline is fast moving with a mix of her working and private life to give the reader all the clues needed to solve the murder. There is an engaging group of characters both good and bad who hopefully will be seen again in the next few instalments.

This is a very good start to a series which will soon be nine books strong. My only disappointment is that not all are available on Kindle.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely cosy mystery

An excellent cosy mystery with all the right ingredients for a good story - quirky characters, a believable villain and a plot that moves at a steady pace. The setting was idyllic and I enjoyed reading this. I look forward to reading more books in the series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Charles, the cat, is cute

That is almost the best I can say about this. Lucy, the librarian and heroine of the book, more or less also is the problem of the book: Lucy, who's supposedly 30 years old, but behaves like a thirteen-year old. And a not very bright 13-year-old at that. She is so dumb she believes every single "ghost story" a rival tells her and spends the night cowering in her bed. She is so dumb she runs around town accusing all and sundry of having committed a crime, without having the slightest shred of evidence. She isn't even subtle about it, no she runs right up to someone and blurts out that they did it. When she comes under suspicion, what does she do? She cries. The - three - single men of the town all flock to her - apparently it is enough to look cute and be dumb. The most intelligent thing she seems to have done in her life is to say "no" to a proposal from her childhood friend.
I love cozy mysteries and this one looked like a good set-up: library in a lighthouse, murder, theft, lots of likable supporting characters and a cat. What more can you ask? Well, an intelligent heroine would have been nice.
I did buy the next book. I guess I am glutton for punishment - or a dumb optimist who hopes things might improve. We'll see. If you intend to read it, borrow it from a library. Sadly, I do not have that option.

Super! Ich habe den 4. Band schon vorbestellt.

Love this cozy! It is all it is cracked up to be. Smart likeable characters...and some of course are not likeable. Looking forward to Lucy's next adventure. If you like a cozy mystery, get started on this series when it is in it beginning.
