I bought these to cycle my cable modem in the middle of the night each night, and it worked fine for a few weeks. Until one day it shut down my internet access in the middle of the day. Turns out a recent power failure caused the timer to stop for a few hours causing it to be shifted away from the desired time. This isn't the product's fault. It was doing exactly what it was designed to do. But if you're using this in a technical application that you need to be ultra accurate and fail-safe, you need something with a battery backup.
I use this to turn my distilled-water machine off after 3.75 hours, before it runs dry at 4 hours and "cooks" the hard-water residue onto the bottom of the pot, which makes the pot really hard to clean with vinegar and elbow grease. (But I must remember to disconnect it then or the timer keeps running and eventually turns the still back on and cooks the residue on anyway. ) Good price for such reliably accurate functioning.
Great timer. A little bulky, but I haven’t seen any that are smaller. Quitet. No “mechanical “motor noises. Love that there are enough pins to make it seem like someone is home, even when you are away. Just be sure to keep the extra pins in a safe place where you can locate them if/when needed. It cost almost as much to buy a new set of pins as it does to buy a whole new timer with the pins.
These are the old school mechanical timers that work very well for when you are out of town. I've had hit and miss luck with digital timers sticking on or resetting for no good reason but these babies never fail. They may be low tech, but they do the job. I uses about 6 of these on various lights in my house when I'm away on vacation and they've always done a good job. I'd recommend them to anybody who needs an occasional timer.
This is the best timer. I bought a different type that you have to push down pins to set the time that you want on. The problem is that as soon as the time goes to the on time again, it goes on. Even if you don't want it to. THIS timer goes off where the red pin is placed. It won't go back on if there is no green pin in there. Also you can have this timer on, on, just place a red pin to turn it off. Ex. I put the timer in at 9 AM. I keep it on on. I want to go off at 4 pm. All I do is put a red pin in at 4pm. And it's off for good. With the other type, it will go back on at 9am.
These are more reliable and easier to set than the newer electronic ones. I personally like the removeable clips that set on/off times. The only drawback is that in a very quiet space you can hear the timer running. It's very very low but it is something you can hear. Also, over time, because the time movement is totally mechanical these will wear out; it takes about 3 years. I do like the built in ground wire they have. I'll keep buying these because the price point is good, they handle three prong plugs, and they are easier and more reliable to set than the electronic versions.
Previously, had a timer like this and it is still working and I am extremely happy with it. Now I had a need for additional timers, so purchased the same. This product has worked well and will continue purchasing more when there is a need.
