Overall these sockets are very good. I would have given them a 5 star rating except that the leads are a bit short. When rewiring a 4 tube fixture the leads were barely long enough to go through the hole provided in the socket housing. Another 5 or 6 inches on both the black and white leads would have been very helpful. I would gladly pay a bit extra for the additional length of lead. Very short sighted on the manufacturer’s part.
I used these in order to simplify the install and to have a guaranteed working tombstone. They were a simple slide into the fixture and use a wire nut to attach everything.
My only advice is be prepared to add some wire. My power source only extended about 6 inches out of the ceiling. So - with a 48 inch long fixture, you have 24 inches of real estate to cover from center to center. These tombstones advertise 10 inches of wire, but in reality, it may only been 8 or 9 inches. I added about 21 inches of wire to reach the edge of the fixture. It's a simple fix, but just be prepared.
Overall, I very pleased with the results and my garage is a ton brighter with these LEDs.
These work fine for my retrofit. I had shunted tombstones and needed non-shunted for the retrofit. My only complaint is that the wires are reversed for my needs. My direct wire single end T8 LED tube has the pins labeled for Neutral and Line and they are reversed from the wires on the tombstones. Some say it doesn't matter, but, to me if the manufacturer labeled the pins, I believe they were labeled for a reason. Since I wanted to maintain black to black (Line) and white to white (Neutral), I chose to remove the wires and switch them. The wires are removed very easily by inserting a metal dental pick to push the contact away from the wire and then pull the wire out. A paperclip may work, but, may be too blunt to insert. I then reinserted the wires to agree with the pins. For the dead end tombstones, I just removed the wires. For those that give bad reviews because the wires are too short, I would not blame the product.
High quality "tombstones". The only shortcoming with this product is the same with any you can purchase is that the wires are just stuck into a one way grab connection and not soldered. Though to me this seems a flimsy connection, the low current draw at this connection for a florescent application or even less for an LED application, doesn't necessarily warrant the added manufacturing cost. I am satisfied that these are as good as any available.
These work great! I retrofitted all the old florescent lights I'm my basement. The first light took me a minute to figure out but after that I was able to convert them in about 15 minutes. I definitely recommend these.
Items were as described. They were a snap to put in. Much simpler than I expected. I installed the sockets when I switched to LED fluorescents. The wires that come attached are sufficient, but they are really small compared to the original fixture’s wiring (ample for LED current). Also, the contacts which hold the bulbs are also thin, but functional.
