What a great unit… So I have been trying to scan my photo’s in to the computer for quite some time and I just cannot find anything of a sensible price… I tried a negative scanner and it was pretty crap to be honest.. it could not cope it was fiddly and the final quality was crap.. So I tried this … OH MY WORD its amazing.. I just scanned one photo at a time to start and yep great… Then added three to the bed and it scanned each one individually at a touch of a button… no need to edit it just did it… The quality is great although I have not tried to print any …. But then why would I … I have the Original .. I have also scanned in some documents and this is pretty simple to do to. There is a few software packages with the install and they all worked well for me.. Great Unit Light and easy to transport.. Just one USB cable too so no extra power supply to lug around..
EPSON: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN I bought an Epson V39 scanner. It had been sent from Epson to Amazon in a tatty box, sealed with scotch tape. I sent it back and got another one. Same story! The box had a label with CLEARED posted on it. It certainly did not seem new; I suspect it was reconditioned. Although 'Planned Obsolescence' lawsuits have been launched against HP, Canon and Brother, the main culprit seems to be Epson. Enter 'Planned Obsolescence' and the manufacturers' names on the internet and you'll see several reports like this.
Software is less then intelligent enough given the day and age. The buttons on the front of the scanner do not do what the manual or description implies they do. There is no scan and print (like a photo copier) with the push of a button. Instead the button calls up the software, and you have to manually tell the software what you want to do by selecting settings. Tends to not care what the original size of the scanned document is, it will automatically adjust the printout to fill the page which can cause severe blurring. If you want a photocopier like experience (printed document is the same size as the source document) you have to play around with the settings other wise it will try to blow up your scan to fill the print out.
If you do not have a CD player built into your PC, 1) You need to absolutely read the instructions BEFORE installing your new purchase else it will never work properly 2) Customize all of the settings BEFORE turning on this device
My scanner processed Three scans and stopped functioning I am sincerely tired to have to deal with settings that remindedme of the 80ies ! Unless you remember the manual way to install and configure this device will hardly work I sincerely regret my purchase
Very useful, but very slow! Fortunately, I won't need to use it too often nor for too long. I bought it for my home office. If I had more money to dedicate to a scanner, I would have gotten a better one, but this one do the trick for now. It's easy to install (it comes with a CD-Rom) and easy to use. It comes with a USB cord, so you don't even need to plug it in an electric outlet. It's very thin, and seems very fragile. I put it out to use it, and put it in my bookcase when I don't use it, so my cats won't be tempted to walk on it or to lay down on it (I don't think it will resist the weight). You could fit a 8 x 14 sheet in it. So far, I used it to scan 8 x 12 sheets.
This is the third scanner that I own in more than 20 years. I use scanner a lot, since I digitize everything in my household, including receipts, manual, etc., etc.... I like this scanner very much. Here is why.
a. It’s small, taking less space.
b. It is light.
c. It is VERY easy to open the cover to scan book.
d. It is easy to use. Whether I scan photos or documents, it is EXACTLY the same step. Just loading different profile.
f. It does not require a PDF (or another software) to start.
g. It’s just one small standard USB cable. No separate power cable with transformer.
h. It's not too expensive.
h. Support is quick. I get a response in a day. They respond on Saturday. Some other company will not reply on Saturday.
At this time, I can not comment about reliability and quality, although these criteria are VERY important to me. I have to use for at least one year to have an reasonable idea.
May 14, 2019: One important thing that I forget to mention in my original submission. This product has a feature to allow me to scan legal document. It is done by software. You scan top of the page, then scan the bottom of the page. The software will merge them into one PDF file. This is great to me. I had lots of difficulties over the years with legal documents.
I wanted a faster scanner for infrequent use on a Windows 10 64 bit desktop system. This suits the bill nicely. My Dad bought one a month prior. I wasn't particularly impressed with the Epson software. It has many features, but each piece is separate, not one single software interface. My Dad really wanted to use it as a photocopier. Although the software can be started from the scanner buttons, it still required quite a lot of interaction. I installed iCopy. You need to check the box on install to register iCopy to the scanner buttons, then you need to go to devices and Printers. Right click on the scanner, Properties, Events. iCopy will be in the list now, but I had to look hard to notice it. Now I push the button and a copy comes out of the printer without any interaction at all. I only installed the Epson driver on my computer and I use Vuescan by Hamrick software for scanning. I have used Vuescan since the 1990s and highly recommend it. The V39 scanner does a 300dpi colour 24bit scan in about 15 seconds and 600dpi in 26 seconds. Way faster than my old scanner which took almost 3 minutes !
