To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This first volume of a new Planet of the Apes series sets up the bigger picture and introduces us to many characters. I think it is beneficial if you have seen all of the original films to appreciate this book(especially Battle of the Planet of the Apes), but it is not essential as the book is well written and you can follow the story easily in that sense. As fan of the Planet of the Apes movies and TV series I was worried this book would not be good enough to be alongside them but I think it does. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 as perhaps the book could have included more than just four collected issues and therefore told more of the story.
While not quite in line with the world of the original films - apes with airships? Flintlocks rather than semi auto rifles? Ape cities across the entire continent? But it wasn't bad and the characters are interesting as is the church of bomb worship. Worth reading.
