Like others posting reviews, I first thought this cable was defective. I have a Samsung SmartCam HD and once I changed out the cable with this 20' cable the camera worked for about three minutes, after that it went offline. I ended up unplugging the camera and re-plugging it in only to notice it started failing its boot-up checks. My camera would just hang and nwouldn't start even after unplugging and re-plugging 15 more times. From there I started troubleshooting and remembered reading about voltage drops on long USB cables. My Samsung Smartcam HD USB adapter was a 5V 2.0A plug so I went and found an old Samsung phone charger I had that was 5.3V 2.0A plugged it in and the camera started working. It's been over a week now and everything is still running fine.
While I am no electrical engineer this worked for me, just not sure if it will work for anyone else. It would be nice for the seller to document the voltage drop on these cables and what adjustments need to be made for anyone with issues.
"Mission Cables" had one simple mission of just sitting still and powering my Nest camera, but it failed it's mission on the very first night!
Thought at first my Nest camera or WiFi had an issue as it worked when first plugged in but when I got up the next day I had a notice from the Nest App that the camera was offline. I checked everything and could not see any problem.
So I went back and used the white Nest cables that came with the camera and it worked fine. I put this one back in and found it is the problem - I bought two but can not have my other cameras not working too so I put the original Nest cable back.
And today I was in a small store and got a 99 cents roll of black electrical tape and wrapped the original white Next cables and they work great. Wish
This isn't a review. It's a reminder that, if you're looking to extend a Zmodo camera, this is not the cable. It has two standard USB connectors, and you need one end with a micro-USB connector. I had to return the ones I bought, because I didn't notice it when ordering.
Obviously, introducing this cable as a way to extend your current power connection comes with problems. Many power adapters native to the camera simply will not supply enough power at that distance. The seller should know this and warn buyers of it. How can the seller advertise this working on your camera when there are obvious limitations.
Test: Plug short cable into Wyze camera, change and save settings... all good for weeks. Add this cable, again change and save settings. Settings are lost within few hours because the camera is rebooting. Remove this cable and add short cable again, all is fine.
Wyze is not expecting you to use a 20ft cable so they don’t advertise operation as such. But this cable manufacturer and seller blindly say, yeah it’ll work on all these cameras... sell them away, no one will really notice it’s busted. So customers waist time troubleshooting.
Seller should either warn user/buyer of length limitations resulting from adding this cable or remove that it works with X cameras and simply leave it as a 20ft USB cable. Otherwise, they are falsely advertising to some extent.
The bottom line for this cable is that it works. It's well-made and powers my WYZE Cam Pan camera exactly as the OEM cable did, only it gives me more flexibility in where I can place the camera. The packaging says it is for the Nest camera, but it works equally well for the WYZE cameras. Good price, good product. If you need a longer cable, get it.
I ordered this cable for my dash cam. My truck has two power ports but one stays on all the time and would drain my battery if I left the dash cam plugged in. Unfortunately the USB cable that came with the dash cam was two short to reach the center consul (After hiding it behind the trim). This cable worked perfectly and was better quality then the OEM one that my dash cam came with. I was able to run it behind all the trim and still had a little to spare. The micro USB was tight and won't fall out of the device like some other cheap cables do.
I was tired of my phone charging across the room while I was home. So I bought this and am verp pleased. I can be anywhere in my living room and it reaches. It charges a little slower than my factory charger, but I expect that from a low price cable anyway. Overall I'm happy with it
I can't speak on whether the cable works for the nest camera, but I found out that the length of the cable actually causes the dc voltage to drop with respect to current being drawn. I suspect that the nest camera needs < 1 amp to operate (for which this cable can suitably deliver), but I needed > 2 amps which was actually a problem. Also, USB 2.0 specification states a max of 16 feet (5m) for length of cable to reliably transmit data so consider this before purchase. I ended up building a usb power supply rated at 7V output to be able to reliably reach the device at roughly 4V. No error with the product, so 5 stars are given.
Generic black USB to Micro cable. Looks and feels superior to aftermarket cables BUT was not made for the Dropcam. Misleading to anyone looking to buy a cable made within OEM tolerances to fit Dropcam. Mine does not fit securely. I purchased in an Amazon Bundle. Maybe complacent in my comfort with many Amazon purchases I did not check first. Expected it was going to fit securely. With the small tolerances in any (female) micro socket, it is best when the same manufacturer who produced the female port makes the male plug. This saves you from a cable that wont fit securely. First clue to a misleading pkg that should have alerted me was the package says "USB Power Cable for Dropcam - then a disclaimer distancing itself from Dropcam.
