I wanted to use this device as a WiFi connection for my FreeSat box which, as an older model, has to be hard wired and I recently lost the ability to do this. In this WiFi 'dongle' configuration the device acts as a bridge - that much I do understand - but despite following the instructions I got nowhere with it.
I tried several times to set it up using my laptop, including resetting the device repeatedly, but each time it got to rebooting itself to confirm the settings that the instructions told me to make I just got the twirling thingy. The instructions are pretty unfathomable unless you are a technical person and there are lots of 'advanced' things you can apparently do which meant absolutely nothing to me so best leave those alone.
I wanted to use this device as a WiFi connection for my Seneye aquarium SWS box which has to be hard wired via ethernet but despite following the instructions, getting it working but it kept loosing connection.
I tried several times to set it up again using my laptop, including resetting the device repeatedly, but each time it got to rebooting itself to confirm the settings that the instructions told me to make but i got errors. The instructions are pretty poor, returned for a refund.
I purchased this product to act as a bridge (Wifi adaptor) for a network device that does not have Wifi (ethernet only). Unlike some reviewers, I did manage to get it work but it took a few attempts and was incredibly hit-and-miss due to really bad software and an unstable operating system.
Unfortunately, the Wifi quality is just terrible. I have 80Mbps broadband. Most of my other Wifi enabled devices can get around 75Mbps in most places in my house. When I put this device a couple of feet from the router, it gets 30Mbps. That would actually be enough for my use case, but it's incredibly unstable... at one point I plugged it in to my laptop and it was getting 0.5Mbps!
To give it the benefit of the doubt, I gave it a factory reset. The second time around it was just as bad. And the third. As soon as you actually try to put any bandwidth through it, it goes to zero.
All of this testing was done during a period when all other wifi devices had rock solid signal. My conclusion is that it's just a rubbish product and isn't fit for the advertised purchase. I'll be sending it back.
Maybe I was unlucky but I couldn’t get this to work. The unit powered up and I was able to access the interface to add my WiFi settings but after that it went wrong. Couldn’t get the settings to save to the device so was never able to get past the setup phase. Tried using Static and DHCP IP, also tried making reservations on my Router for the MAC address. Spent easy 4-6 hours but I. The end it went back in the box and back to Amazon. Resorted to buying Powerline Adaptors for a more robust solution. Buyer beware.
