Left my review until I'd given the item a good trial. Was very skeptical at first but after adjusting my swimming cap so it didn't completely cover the earbuds I have been pleasantly surprised. This SYRYN waterproof MP3 player actually works. The earbuds stop water from getting in your ears (and with a choice of sizes everyone should be happy) and the sound is generally okay (slight muffling when underwater but nothing to complain about). Fixes nicely to goggle strap and the earbud wiresare short enough to not be a bother. Well- suited to freestyle, even more to breastroke. Can even handle tumble turns. The Battery life is good too. Best of all, this item is totally fit for purpose- removing the boredom of endless laps in the pool. Would recommend to anyone who does a lot- or even a little- swimming.
I've been using this for the last 6 months, swimming for up to 2 hours up to 5 times a week so it's had plenty of use and I'm really pleased with it. I did, however, puchase different earphones as the lead on the ones it came with wore out on one side after a few weeks. I use the gel on the earbud tips and pull my cap over my ears. It takes a little while to get the hang of finding the correct positioning for the earbuds - they do need to be pushed in quite firmly - pulling the ear up and back when you insert it helps and the plug should be pointing slightly forwards. It continued working and stayed in place on the goggle strap through any number of tumble turns but I found I was often getting water in my ear, stopping the sound that side, so I changed my technique to a quick turnaround which isn't a tumble and goes less deep - this has meant I rarely have to stop to get water out of my ear and is just as fast. Loading tunes was easy - and I'm no techno wizard! There's plenty of space for hundreds of tunes, but I've not tried it with podcasts yet. It's also easy to skip forward or back. When the device is switched on, it always seems to default to a medium volume, so I press and hold the volume button when I've switched on, usually to take it up to the maximum volume (which takes a few seconds to be sure). Then there's no problem at all hearing even quiet parts of tunes in a noisy pool. I will definitely get this product again if needed.
I want to say that this player is built very well and is very reliable as a device. However, it turned out to be nearly useless for my use case. I mostly listen to podcasts/audiobooks. First, there is no rewind function, but that is normal for mp3 players. I already made peace with the fact that most mp3 players don't have that function (the only one that had it was ipod shuffle). But this player's software is crazy about the play order. I find myself in the pool clicking back and forward for 15 minutes trying to restore the order, all because the developers hardcoded that the play order is the copy order. Troubleshooting page that says you can enforce the play order by naming files is a lie. The company was gracious enough to offer me a refund, which I did not go through with yet, I will let community know how it goes.
This is a small, screen less MP3 player and it works really well for me. You drag and drop your music from your computer (It has to be the format that the player uses so you'll need to convert it if its other formats) and you charge it by plugging into the computer's USB port. Sound is good once you get the earplugs fitted well and the cable is just the right length to go from the back of your swim cap to your ears (there is a longer extension if you need it). I could live without the extra goggles and swim cap but I suspect I will use them when my current ones run out. I'm very happy with this after a few weeks and I expect it to last - though I tend to be careful with my stuff. OH and the support is great - I emailed a query to USA and got an answer the next morning - very impressive.
Update: 3 months on any even happier than before! Durability and battery life are both proving excellent (they accidentally went in the washing machine!), and volume is more than sufficient once a better fit was achieved with practice! :)
The package arrived quickly and is an impressive box of goodies: headphones, underwater MP3 player, a few different types of buds, sealing gel for a perfect fit, plus googles, hair cap and hair protectant. Excellent value! It was quick and simple to transfer music to the MP3 player, and charge it. Finding the right fit with the ear buds took two trials: the first trial was with one set of buds which just weren't the ideal fit. Try each of them, and give them a little tug to find the ones best for you. The second type used were much better, and using the goggles strap to help keep them close to the head made all the difference. The user (my husband) moves quite abruptly and regularly in the water, with head rotations for breathing and flip turns between laps. The earbuds stay in perfectly! But if your movement were more jerky, you could use the swim cap or fit goo for an even more secure fit. Use has been every day for about half an hour, for a week so far. No recharge needed yet, but can't comment on long-term durability. No sign of any wear or tear yet! Only negative feedback from the user is that the maximum volume could be a bit higher. I personally could not stand it any higher when I tried them out outside of the pool, but perhaps the splashing and under-water factor makes decreases the volume heard when swimming.
When I received these and tried them out at home to check they worked, I was disappointed with the sound quality. So I decided to try them in the water and was massively surprised.
When swimming, with all the noise of the water, it doesn't seem to matter that the sound quality isn't great. Just the fact that you can listen to music whilst swimming is amazing!
However, I have a problem with one of the ear bud tips as it is not formed properly or was squashed in the box, so it lets in water and is useless. You get lots of different tips, but unfortunately, the large tree tip that was squashed, is the only one that fits my big ears!
If your looking for a cheap way to listen to music whilst swimming, then this is a great option. Just don't expect the sound quality to be great.
This is seriously amazing I really didn't think it was going to work this well considering it was so much cheaper than its competitors and it came with so much stuff! I could hear the music all the time even under water. I used the cap and it worked well keeping the headphones, on they didn't fall out, even when I swam laps underwater. I've never used a cap before, I felt a little silly at first but afterwards I loved how my hair felt! I think I will always use it from now on as the whole set up with the cap worked well I don't know if the headphones would stay in my ears without it but I don't care because the sound and comfort was amazing with the cap. Also the goggles are the best ones I've ever owned I had some black speedo ones before that always hurt my face and steamed up. These were crystal clear and comfortable. The goo stuff that seals the water out on the earbuds also worked better than I expected I just squeezed a tiny dot on and spread it around and it worked! I haven't used the hair protection stuff yet as I've got my own which does the same but I would recommend that type of product, it's a lovely addition for when I run out of my own. I can't comment on battery life really as I've only used it once but it lasted my whole swim which was about 1hr 30 mins and it's still not run out. A lot of my music files were mpeg 4 and they need to be MP3 so if you can't hear your music that's why. There's online websites that will convert them for free. Overall definitely 5 stars. I'm so glad I won't be bored swimming ever again!!
Bought this to replace an Underwater Audio iPod Shuffle which is not longer available. There is no volume control, so you are stuck with not great sound, but still usable. However, it is hard to start, seems to stay on pause and you have to turn it on then off again, and wait to see if the light flashes so that you know it is playing ---- not good by the side of a pool or lake. I bought this in March, and is has not died on the 25th of July, despite the fact that I took care of it. Honestly guys, this is not good. I am going to return it, maybe they will replace it, maybe not, but I am unimpressed
Firstly - I've rated this 5 stars because it does exactly what it says on the box. It's a waterproof MP3 player suitable for using while swimming. When I was looking to purchase something to make doing laps more tolerable, I looked at most of the options available through Amazon and wasn't impressed by most of the offerings. I ended up going for this one because it seemed to have the least dubious/fake reviews, and I hoped that by spending a bit more I wouldn't get something completely useless. Bearing this in mind, I'm satisfied.
The sound quality is fine, and it's easy to operate - the buttons are multipurpose when you press and hold e.g. for volume control. In the pool, I was at first a bit concerned that one side sounded muffled, but it turned out I had a bit of water in the rubber part of the earbud - giving it a flick resolved the issue. There's an extension cord to make the earphones longer, but I found I was fine clipping the MP3 player to my swimming costume without this. The earbuds stayed in well for me (I use the smallest size). Getting music onto the player was straightforward, and I liked that there was a .pdf of the instruction manual. As this contains information about doing a system reset etc it's good to have that available electronically when the paper copy has inevitably wandered off.
The only downside is that there's no mechanism to scroll through a track, so if you are intending to use this to listen to unabridged audiobooks or similar it could be challenging. However, for breaking up the monotony with music/podcasts I think this is great!
