To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This NAS offers SMB for Windows devices and optionally NFS for Unix type operating systems such as Linux and MacOSX. It also maintains a contact with Western Digital's website where you can create a login and access your files through there. Apps are provided for both Android and iOS and it can synchronize your DropBox content to it. You can set up shares to do Windows backups to but the shares has to be publicly accessible to all users as the Windows backup just synchronizes files to the share hence all users on the Windows computer has to have write access, this is really a limitation of how Windows does backups. This may be a problem for small businesses as it means all files are accessible to everyone which honestly is a common problem with any office using Windows. This is the older version of Western Digital's MyCloud devices so they actually have two different MyCloud accounts you can create, this caused some confusion initially and the documentation is ridiculously obtuse. Still, you can back up all your computers, all your phones, upload all your photos, store all your music and even ripped DVD's and have cloud access from anywhere without paying anyone a subscription and you can do this without setting up port forwarding and using ssh tunneling to get access though you are dependent on Western Digital maintaining their MyCloud web access which they're already pushing an alternative version for newer devices. I guess if Western Digital drops support, you could go back to port forwarding and ssh tunneling but then you might as well just use a Linux box as a NAS. Note, the underlying OS is Linux so you could set up ssh, get in and configure what you want if you don't mind accidentally bricking the NAS.
For being able to share files with friends and family, this is a great unit. I don't use it for internal streaming as I have an internal NAS for that. But being able to give access to photos or files to family members and friends wherever they are so simplistically is fantastic. Not a ton of features, but was up and running in 20 minutes. Great for beginners.
Muy fácil de configurar, respuesta rápida en la red. Usuarios sin conocimientos informáticos pueden instalar su propia nube privada rápidamente. El ensamblado es perfecto y la estética es muy agradable.
Really like the fact that I can access my files where ever I'm at. Gave it a test run when I was on holidays in another province, and decided to check it out - worked perfectly. Very easy/simple to set up. It's not big and bulky, it's footprint is quite small. Great way to back up important docs and pictures.
Saw a number of poor reviews. Has worked perfectly for us - very easy to set up as two replicated disks. Can even access personal files over the web. We're now backup up our home PCs and iMacs to this.
